Jay Z is set to make it rain to get his share of the “Purple Rain” — by trying to scoop up Prince‘s huge trove of unreleased music.

According to TMZ, Jay has offered the late star’s family $40 million for the rights to his archive, thousands of songs that were stored in an actual vault at Paisley Park. The Roc-a-Fella mogul reportedly brought Prince’s only full sister, Tyka, to the Big Apple to negotiate a deal — but the site notes that she has to get his half-siblings and other relatives to sign on.

In the meantime, a 40-song greatest-hits album titled Prince 4Ever is due out next month, and a remastered version of his legendary Purple Rain album — complete with previously unreleased tracks — is expected to be released next year.

If the family signs off on the deal, Jay could very well sample or release the legends previously unreleased material.  Who would you like to see purchase Prince’s music?  Why?
