Life is a series of ups and downs, but the ups and downs usually don’t come in such quick succession. They did, though, for Lamar Austin – who watched his son being born and then immediately lost his job. But thanks to the help of complete strangers, his life is back on the upswing.

Lamar was at his wife’s side when their fourth child was born on the morning of New Year’s Day. In fact, their son, Caiman, was the first baby born in Concord, New Hampshire.

In order for Lamar to be there, he had to skip two days of work. The military veteran was working as a part-time security guard and was still in his 90-day trial period. A few hours before his son was born, Lamar received a text informing him that because he missed two days of work, he had been terminated.

Lamar says, “I’m just going to do what I feel is right for my family and that’s it.” After the local newspaper picked up his story, he was immediately flooded with job offers. Someone also set up a GoFundMe page for him and people he doesn’t even know have already contributed $6,000 to it.
