In New Jersey, 12-year-old Charlotte Olsen learned about the Reach Out and Read program in her hometown – and decided she wanted to get involved.

The program allows doctors to give books to their patients to get them reading, either alone or with their parents.

Well, Charlotte set a goal of collecting 1,000 books over the holidays for those kids. She went above and beyond that goal. Charlotte collected 1,300 books and also raised $250 for new books.

Charlotte said she always wanted to do something like this and help others and admitted that when she was little, she dreamed of being on the news and “collecting for people.” She now has her sights set on a different dream … to be an emergency room doctor.
