More Thefts From Vehicles Investigated In Berrien Springs

Police say that they have a couple of suspects in some of the car break ins that occurred near Berrien Springs and Baroda late last week. On Friday, six such crimes were reported around Berrien Springs, in addition to as many as 20 that happened in Baroda Lake Township at about the same time. Berrien Springs Oronoko Township Deputy Police Chief Rick Smiedendorf tells WSJM that cars parked at the high school and Andrews University were among those to have been entered. Items left sitting out in the open were stolen, which he says raises a point -- you can protect yourself against vehicle larcenies:

Security footage from cameras at Andrew University led police to their suspects, and Smiedendorf says that they confessed to the Berrien Springs incidents. In some of the cases, police concluded that the suspects had used a "car punch" hammer to bust open the windows of the vehicles.
