Convicted Scam Artist Facing New Charges

A former Bridgman woman currently serving a three to 21 year prison term for scamming people out of tens of thousands of dollars is facing new charges of perjury and subordination of perjury. Betsy Kwasny is accused of lying during her trial last June and convincing the girlfriend of her son to do the same on her behalf. Kwansy faces up to 15 more years in prison on each charge if convicted. Her lawyer tried to remove himself from the case before the trial started this week in St. Joseph, saying his relationship with his client had broken down. That motion was denied, with the judge saying any other lawyer would face the same problems with Kwasney that he currently does.
