Happy Headline of the Day: Stranger Donates Liver, Gets Something Amazing in Ret

Some guys are able to get the girl with a clever pick up line. Chris Dempsey of Illinois went a step further and got the girl with a piece of his liver.

Early last year, Dempsey overheard a co-worker talking about a family member named Heather who was diagnosed with stage-4 liver disease and was in need of transplant. Having not even met Heather, Dempsey – a former Marine – had himself tested and ended up being a perfect match.

Dempsey says, "I put myself in Heather's position and thought what it would be like to not know if you're going to make it. And I thought to myself, 'You know what – I'm just going to do this.'"

A transplant, in which Chris would donate 55% of his liver to Heather, was scheduled and the two got to know each other very well leading up to the surgery. Following the very long procedure, Chris and Heather realized they shared a lot more than a liver and took their relationship to a new level.

Last month, during a romantic night out in Chicago, Chris popped the big question and the couple is planning to get married later this year.
