Happy Headline: Couple Turns Yard into Homeless Encampment

A Seattle-area couple has a small house with a small backyard, but what they lack in square footage, they make up for in kindness.

Kim and Brad Lancaster found out that a nearby church was no longer able to accommodate the homeless families it had living on its property in tents, so they decided to step in an offer their own house and yard as an encampment.

Since December, the Lancasters have been letting 18 people, including four kids, live at their small house. They have large tents set up in the backyard, but their home is open for them to use the bathroom, bathe, cook in the kitchen and use the laundry machines.

Brad is a lawyer and Kim is a paralegal and they are both fully aware that what they are doing is against zoning law, but they've been able to get away with it so far.

Most of the neighbors have been supportive of the Lancasters and some have even cooked meals for everyone. But the town did get one complaint and has ordered them to move the families off their property. They've been able to reach a deal with the town and allow the people to stay until April 1st. At that point, they will be moved to a church in Seattle.
