Big Glass, Big Headache?

If you’re drinking wine, you need to pay attention to the size of the glass. According to a recent study, the larger the wine glass, the more and the faster you are likely to drink.

Researchers from the University of Cambridge performed a study at an on-campus bar where they alternated serving wine to patrons out of three different glasses – 8-ounce, 10-ounce, and 12-ounce. Turns out, increasing the glass size, even if you don’t increase the volume of wine, makes people drink more.

Researchers explain, “One reason may be that larger glasses change our perceptions of the amount of wine. There’s some evidence to suggest that people consume more rapidly when they perceive that there’s less.”
