A man in Mexico established a free cooking workshop for the blind.

With no training, 37-year-old marketing executive Gabriel Garza Alanís started teaching cooking classes for the blind seven years ago at a center that offered medical care to low-income blind people.

In 2009, Gabriel owned a catering business called El Mantel – and he came up with the idea for the workshop that often involves contests, kind of like the show Top Chef.

Gabriel created techniques to help his students get familiar with cooking tools, especially dangerous ones such as knives, pots, and open flames.

And so far, the results have been great, with many of his students now cooking for friends and family – and some even making a living working in restaurant kitchens.
