In the exact same way going on vacation for the first time with a partner can put a strain on the relationship, going on vacation with a group of friends can leave you with less friends when you get home than you had when you left!

Here are some expert tips on what you can do to when traveling with a group of friends … so you are all still friends after the vacation is over:

  • Agree on a budget before you leave: If one friend can’t afford to go off the all-inclusive resort every night for dinner and everyone else has beaucoup bucks to spare, it’s going to cause discord and hurt feelings. Agree on how much you will spend on food and drinks and stick to it.
  • Talk about what you want out of the vacation: If you have plans to go zip lining and scuba diving and the rest of the group just wants to sit by the pool all day and party all night you probably shouldn’t go on the trip with them.
  • Agree that you don’t have to do everything together as a group: Splitting up is perfectly acceptable. Just make sure you are safe and don’t go off on your own or with strangers.
  • Resist the urge to complain or gossip about another person: When you are in close quarters with people all day, every day, you will get annoyed – even if you are on a tropical island. Instead of complaining, take a swim or a walk on the beach. Clear your head and realize whatever the annoyance is, it’s trivial and not worth risking your friendship over.
