Coldplay kicked off their U.S. tour this weekend with a bang.

Their pair of shows at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey Saturday and Sunday included a new cover with a local flavor the first night and a surprise visit from actor Michael J. Fox the second night.

The visit by Fox during Sunday’s encore took place at the behest of frontman Chris Martin‘s 10-year-old son, Moses, who opened the segment by making a video request for his dad to do a song from “our favorite movie, Back to the Future.” Martin and the band then launched into The Penguins‘ “Earth Angel, which went on for two verses by Marty McFly himself, who strapped on a Gibson Les Paul and joined in for the rest of the song. Fox stayed on stage for the closing number of the movie’s soundtrack, Chuck Berry‘s “Johnny B. Goode,” tossing off some nifty Berry licks before it was over. Afterward, Martin called the whole thing “a dream come true.” You can find the performances on YouTube.

Despite some differences in song selection toward the end of the shows, both clocked in at 23 songs. The tour continues Wednesday at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
