Jonny & Meagan Mornings: How Not To Be The Jerk In The School Drop-Off Line

Drop-off lines are meant to move along! If everyone parks in the middle of the drop-off line to have a conversation with a teacher or another parent, or get out and personally escort their child into his classroom, or basically do anything besides come to a complete stop and say “Have a great day!” for the 20 seconds it should take for the kid to unbuckle himself and get out, then nobody will ever get through the line. There are other places to do all those things.

Basically think of the drop-off line as a physical representation of the Golden Rule. Would you want someone to stop in front of you for five minutes while they attend to their personal business? If not, then don’t do it to another mom.

Also, PUT DOWN THE CELL PHONES. Nobody can safely navigate a school drop-off situation, let alone a parking lot or other busy, crowded space, while holding a device to their ear and carrying on a conversation. I’ve seen many parents almost hit another car or worse, a child, because they can’t navigate with their hands full or aren’t paying close attention. Again, your call isn’t so important that it takes precedence over other people.

Third, I  support anyone’s right to show up to school drop off in pajamas, no bra, and bed head.
