The school cafeteria can be a rough place for shy kids looking for a place to sit and eat lunch. They often end up sitting alone. (We all saw that viral video of a college football player who helped out a kid in that situation.)

A 16-year-old girl from California has created an app to help. Natalie Hampton’s Sit With Us app makes finding friends in the school cafeteria easy by allowing students to sign in as “ambassadors” and inviting others to join them. Ambassadors can post “open lunch” events, letting anyone looking for company know that they’re welcome at the ambassadors’ table.

The app launched just a week ago and Natalie says people are already posting “open lunches.” Her creation is making the lives of shy kids better each day.
