ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME: A Musical Look at the Election

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has compiled a playlist to coincide with the Presidential election. Here it is:

1) “Sweater Weather” – The Neighbourhood: “The standout star of the second debate was the undecided voter, Ken Bone, and of course, his red sweater. This one’s for you K-Bone!”

2) “Don’t Stand So Close to Me” – The Police: “Throughout the second debate, Donald Trump was criticized for hovering and standing too close to Hillary Clinton.”

3) “Let Me Clear My Throat” – DJ Kool: “Donald has been criticized for his breathing and sniffling throughout the debates, an issue DJ Kool knows all too well.”

4) “Sorry to Interrupt” – Jessie J: “During every debate, both Donald and Hillary have not been afraid to interrupt each other’s responses. At least Jessie J says, “Sorry.”

5) “Where Is the Love?” – Black Eyed Peas: “The final question of the second debate was an opportunity for both candidates to compliment each other. As expected, awkwardness ensued.”

6) “Shimmy Shimmy Ya” – Ol’ Dirty Bastard: “In the first debate, Hillary made a now famous ‘shimmy’ before answering a question.”

7) “It’s Not True” – The Who: “In the first debate, Donald repeatedly interjected to claim that Hillary’s statements about him were not true.”

8) “Taxman” – The Beatles: “Taxes have become a major issue in the campaign, particularly since Donald’s admission that he has not paid federal income taxes for more than a decade.”

9) “The Look” – Roxette: “While maybe not the same ‘look’ Roxette references in its famous song, Donald has claimed many times that Hillary does not have the ‘Presidential look.'”

10) “Breaking the Law” – Judas Priest: “Donald made waves in the second debate when he claimed that if elected President, he would hire a special prosecutor to ensure Hillary is put in jail over her infamous E-mail scandal.”

11) “Shake a Hand (If You Can)” – Little Richard: “To start the second and third debates, Hillary and Donald refrained from shaking one another’s hands, a true sign of things to come. And the candidates weren’t the only ones skipping the traditional pre-debate pleasantries. Former President Bill Clinton and Melania Trump also did not shake hands before the last debate.”

12) “We’re Not Gonna Take It” – Twisted Sister: “Not only was the song used in some of Donald’s earliest rallies, it perfectly encapsulates the message of his campaign and the feeling of many Trump voters. Twisted Sister eventually asked the campaign to refrain from using the ‘80s anthem at Trump events.”

13) “I’m Your Puppet” – Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell: “In the final debate, Donald denied claims by Hillary that he was Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s ‘puppet.'”

14) “Nasty” – Janet Jackson: “The name-calling continued in the third debate. Donald interrupted Hillary, calling her a ‘nasty woman.’ Janet’s 1986 hit immediately came to viewers’ minds and online streams of the song increased by 250 percent in the 12 hours after the debate.”

15) “Give It Up” – KC and the Sunshine Band: “Upon being asked if he would recognize the election results, Donald claimed he would keep us in suspense. Since the Civil War, every presidential candidate has ‘given it up’ and conceded the race once the results were in.”
