How can I help with flood relief here in Berrien County?  That is a question that many have been asking this week as we watch our family and neighbors begin the clean up following the record amounts of rain we have received here in Michigan’s Great Southwest.  There are plenty of ways for you to help the great people of Berrien County as they attempt to rebuild their lives.  Whether you want to make a monetary donation, volunteer your time or are not quite sure how you can help, there are some great organizations helping and they can point you in the right direction.

You can find information on how you can donate time, money or household items by contacting the Red Cross at 1(800)HELP-NOW or log on to their website at redcross.org.  You can ask that your donation stay here in Berrien County.

To help address the problems of the widespread flooding throughout Berrien and Cass counties, United Way of Southwest Michigan and the Berrien Community Foundation have partnered and you can contact them by visiting www.uwsm.org/relief.

Many animals have also been affected by the flooding here in Berrien County and beyond and you can help by donating items like blankets, food, kitty liter or even opening your home to foster an animal as the Human Society has taken in many of those animals displaced by the flooding.  Give them a call at (269)927-3303 or visit their website at humansocietyswm.org to find out how you can lend a hand.

It is going to be a long road ahead as more than 300 homes have been affected here in Berrien County so do what you can to help and remember that we are Michigan’s GREAT Southwest because of people like you!
