Kelly Clarkson set the wayback machine for the early ’70s to get into the groove of her latest project — a cover of the Guess Who‘s “American Woman,” which will be the theme song of Alicia Silverstone‘s new TV series.

The show, also called American Woman, is set in the women’s liberation movement of the ’70s, a vibe that Kelly says she tapped into when recording her take on the 1969 smash.

She tells Entertainment Weekly, “I got to see the whole trailer for [American Woman] and the vibe of it, which I love. We wanted to create this moody kind of vibe and kind of pay homage to that ’70s classic sound of it, too. There are all these things that we love, and we felt we wanted to represent American Woman and the whole lyric of it — the strength and the boldness and the power I feel like American women exude.”

The series is loosely based on the life of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards and her family.  Richards is also the co-executive producer for the project which will premier on June 7th on the Paramount Network.
