1987 – Singer, Actor and Dancer Fred Astaire passed away at the age of 88, but not before welcoming Michael Jackson as the new king of song and dance. He was quoted shortly before his death saying: “I didn’t want to leave this world without knowing who my descendant was, thank you, Michael.”
1990 – Billy Joel takes the title of first rock act to play Yankee Stadium in two sold out shows at the venue.
2003 – Beyonce releases her first solo album, “Dangerously in Love”, with the hit track “Crazy In Love.”
Artifact of the day: 1966 – The Beatles’ final world tour launches in Munich. Afterwards, the band refocused on studio creations and released “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.”
