1986 – On July 5th 1986, Janet Jackson hit a two week streak at No. 1 with her album “Control.”

1995 – More than 4,000 Deadheads were attending a Grateful Dead concert in St.Louis, when a wooden deck collapsed and injured more than 100 fans. Fortunately none were seriously injured in the July 5th 1995 incident.

2003 – Johnny Cash made his last public appearance during a live performance at Carter Ranch on this day in 2003. He made a dedication to his late wife, June Carter before singing “Ring of Fire” and went on to pass away on Sept. 12th of the same year.

Artifact of the day: 1954 – Elvis Presley holds his inaugural recording session at Sun Records in Memphis. The session results in the song “That’s Alright Mama.”
