Back when coronavirus started, George Ahearn of Bothell, Washington, recognized that a bunch of fresh produce from farms was going to waste.

George was also in a great situation to help many people — because he had co-founded a charity group that worked with farmers and food banks called EastWest Food Rescue.

He got to work quickly, arranging for trucks to deliver 3 million pounds of unsold produce to food banks.

Using his connections and mobilizing his volunteers, George moved all that food from farms in eastern Washington to the western part of the state, where it ended up at hundreds of food banks and was used to keep meal programs rolling. (WGHP-TV)
