Last weekend in Indiana, high school runners competed in a cross-country race — which resulted in a special show of sportsmanship.

One of the runners, Levi LaGrange, was running up a hill when he rolled his ankle and started limping.

Behind him, fellow runner Axel Aleman saw Levi limping. But instead of blasting past Levi, Axel slowed down to make sure everything was OK.

Even though Levi was in pain, he told Axel to keep running and finish strong.

Axel would have none of it. Instead, he placed a hand on Levi’s back and helped push him forward — and then ran with Levi the rest of the way.

Axel, who also plays soccer, wrestles and runs track, explained, “It just seemed like the right thing to do.”

And while he didn’t win the race, he did end up making a new friend by sacrificing his own time out on the race course to help someone else. (Indianapolis Star)
