Earlier this year, wildfires raged in Northern California, and affected nine-year-old Reese Osterberg in a big way. Her family lost their home in fire — and Reese lost her precious baseball card collection. She had collected 100 cards over the past three years.
When members of the fire department heard Reese’s story, they started spreading the word and asking for donations to replace her lost cards.
That’s when Kevin Ashford of San Jose, California, stepped up and offered to donate his baseball card collection to her.
Kevin didn’t just have a few cards in his garage. Instead, he had a massive collection of 25,000 cards that he’s been putting together since the late 1990s.
While the cards are definitely worth a lot of money, Kevin thought they would be worth far more to him if they would make the day of this little girl.
Explaining his decision, Kevin said he “would give anything to see the smile on her face when she receives them.”
