The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in Newport, Rhode Island, does a lot of good for families in the community. It provides food for the hungry, educates young people – and helps senior citizens stay healthy and strong.
And thanks to Jane Mead Timken, the center will be able to do even more good things as Jane sold her house – and handed over the $1.7 million in proceeds.
It was the largest gift to the organization in its 100-year history.
The idea for the donation started when all this coronavirus stuff started. Jane learned that demands for programs at the center were increasing in a big way – and fast.
So, she made the commitment and gave the center a huge boost, allowing the group to operate on firm financial footing – both now and for many years in the future.
