The Neighborhoods Need Neighbors organization in South Haven has not succeeded at getting their ballot petition on the November ballot. The law firm Dickinson Wright told the city clerk it had five issues that would result in it being successfully challenged in court. NNN founder Walt Plechaty says they will return.

“We’re prepared to once again get the language verified as correct, go back to our 422 supporters, and do it again. This will result in a special election at the city’s cost.”

Others spoke in favor of short term rentals and said rumors there are corporations buying homes in South Haven for renting them as vacation homes is not true. The city has an ordinance on the books from 2018 putting a limit on short term rentals at a level under what they currently have. No STR owners, however, will lose their license unless they decide to stop renting.
