There is plenty more room to roam at Silver Beach now that the dredging projects have been completed in the St. Joseph harbor. The excess sand dredged from the outer harbor last week allowed for Silver Beach to be extended south almost to the beach at Lions Park.
Residents and visitors enjoyed the extended beach throughout Labor Day weekend, taking longer walks and setting up for a relaxing day in some new, more secluded areas of the beach.
Every year, the harbor is dredged to allow for commercial ships to safely navigate the harbor. King Company, who did the outer harbor dredging, is headed up to South Haven next for a harbor dredging and South Beach restoration project.
