Britney Spears demanded the immediate termination of the conservatorship that has stretched more than 13 years.
Wednesday’s virtual appearance before the judge was the first time Britney personally addressed the court. She had remained silent out of fear that she would not be believed. Though she desired her freedom a long time ago, Britney told Judge Brenda Penny, (quote) “I did not know I could petition to terminate the conservatorship.”
Speaking in a crisp clip for 23-minutes, Britney said the conservators separated her 12-step friends from her and lied to her for years. (quote) “I don’t even drink alcohol. I should drink alcohol for what they’ve done to my heart. My dad and anyone involved in this conservatorship — including my management – should be in jail.”
She added, (quote) “My own management could sue me if I didn’t follow through with the [2018 Piece of Me] tour. It’s not OK to force me to do anything I don’t want to. The conservatorship should end.”
Earlier in the day, her boyfriend of four years, Sam Asghari, displayed his support by flaunting a #FreeBritney T-shirt. Britney wished out loud to “get married. I wanted to take the IUD out and have a baby, but conservator won’t let me because they don’t want me to have a baby.”
Changes Britney demanded include a new lawyer, an end to regular drug testing, mental evaluations and twice-weekly therapy sessions. If she must visit a shrink, Britney wants a private entrance away from paparazzi. She admitted, (quote) “I do know I need a little therapy. I’ve been so angry. I cry every day. I just want my life back. I want to own my money. For my boyfriend to be able to drive me in his car. I want to sue my family.” (People)

Scooter Braun and Taylor Swift are never going to agree.
The mega-manager contradicted Taylor’s account of trying to acquire her back catalog. He purchased Swift’s master recordings then leveraged their value in a billion-dollar deal with the South Korean company that owns K-Pop stars, BTS.
Taylor has said that she tried to buy her music, but Scooter would not make a deal. Speaking with Variety, Scooter shared his side, (quote) “I don’t know what story she was told. I asked for her to sit down with me several times. I offered to sell her the catalog back and went under [non-disclosure agreement], but her team refused.”
Here’s what Taylor wrote late last year. (quote) “Scooter Braun wanted me to sign an ironclad NDA stating I would never say another word about Scooter Braun unless it was positive. I would have to sign a document that would silence me forever before I could even have a chance to bid on my own work.”  (Billboard)

Today, Britney Spears will speak directly to a Los Angeles judge and request that her “oppressive” father be permanently removed as conservator.
Coincidentally, The New York Times obtained “confidential court records” that bolster Britney’s argument. She’s battled her father’s controlling behavior. She complained that Jamie Spears limited her allowance but took a large salary for himself, which went toward his relapse drinking.
For seven of the conservatorship’s 13 years, she fought to have dad ousted. Documents confirm that two years ago, Britney was forced against her will into a mental health facility. She told court-ordered investigators into the conservatorship how being institutionalized was her father’s “punishment for standing up for herself.”
Jamie Spears micromanaged Britney’s life to the extent that she required his approval on the color of her kitchen cabinets. He refused because she spent too lavishly. During Britney’s Las Vegas residency, she brought home nearly $1 million per show but was limited to $2000 on personal expenses.
During her court battles, Britney must pay attorney fees on both sides! Just not the lawyers fighting for her freedom but also the conservatorship lawyers who have argued for the status quo.
Britney’s grievances to the court over the years include:
  • Britney felt “sick of being taken advantage of on her payroll.” Her father took 3% of tour revenue and 1.5% from her Vegas residency.
  • Her security team kept her credit cards locked away.
  • Jamie Spears refused to take drug tests while Britney was “tested for drugs numerous times weekly.”
  • Forced to perform in Las Vegas despite a 104-degree fever.
  • Jamie Spears had final approval of Britney’s friends.

Ed Sheeran is moving in with James Corden for a week.
Starting this Monday, June 28, Ed will have a week-long residency on CBS’ The Late Late Show with James Corden.  According to a CBS press release, the residency, which will run through Thursday, July 1, will feature the TV debut of Ed’s new single “Bad Habits,” performances of his past hits, comedy segments and an interview.
The singer has posted yet another tease of the “Bad Habits” video, which gives us a good chunk of the song’s chorus along with visuals of Ed in his pink-suited vampire outfit.  “Excited for you to watch this one,” he captioned the clip.
In addition, Ed’s posted a video of himself playing the song on acoustic guitar.
“Bad Habits” and its music video arrive June 25. No word on when a new album will follow.

While Lewis had an impressive array of curses, he’s got a lot to do if he wants to catch up to the list-topper — Kevin Hart, who dished out 954. (Daily Record)

Britney addressed a third question: “Will I ever take the stage again?”
Her father and the judge in Britney’s conservatorship case ought to take notice of her shocking answer, (quote) “I have no idea. I’m having fun right now. I’m in a transition in my life and I’m enjoying myself.”
Basically, Britney is on a work strike. She promised, as long as her father serves as conservator, Britney refuses to work.
Next week, at the court hearing, if Judge Brenda Penny rules in favor of Jamie Spears, it will effectively force Britney into retirement six months shy of her 40th birthday. (Billboard)

A source close to the couple tells People magazine, “They are both ecstatic that it can finally happen. They are getting married this summer. Gwen’s boys will be very involved. Blake is a great extra dad and very close with the boys.”
As for the reason for the delays? The insider says, “Ever since they got engaged, they have both been adamant that no wedding will happen until it’s safe for family and friends to attend. Next week, Britney Spears will try to convince a judge to remove her father as conservator. She won’t appear in person. Britney will link with the Los Angeles County Superior Court via Zoom.
Despite pressure from the #FreeBritney crowd, she’s focused on only one goal. That’s for the court to appoint a new conservator. Britney has pledged that as long as Jamie Spears controls her life and finances, she effectively retired from showbiz.
A source said, (quote) “Britney is able to do as she pleases within her own home. But whenever she wants to step foot outside, it immediately has to become a bigger conversation because lawyers and other people must get involved.”
Judge Brenda Penny revealed on Monday that the hearing will be conducted virtually. Britney and her lawyers won’t be in the courtroom. Nor will her father. They have not been on speaking terms for more than a year. (Us Weekly)

Omega Auctions shared a three-minute montage of Ed’s best moments from the show, including bits from the classic “Summer Nights” and the solo song “Mooning,” which explains where his character picked up the nickname “Rump.”
Auctioneer Paul Fairweather says the video is “a great watch and we think it definitely gives a hint as to Ed’s star potential.” Omega expects it to fetch between $5000 and $10,000 when the hammer drops on June 29th.

Morgan took issue with passages describing him allegedly getting violent with family members, to the point where he was taken into detention at a juvenile facility.
But according to court documents obtained by Radar Online, Cohen’s lawyers say the statements could not be defamatory because all were “substantially true.” Because of that, Cohen wants his company taken off the hook in the suit, which is asking for over $1 million in damages.

Backstreet Boys could have taken the Super Bowl halftime show stage with NSYNC and Britney Spears back in 2001 — but they turned it down, Nick Carter reveals to Entertainment Tonight.

I am so lucky that I got to learn from some of the best writers on Music Row.”

Mariah Carey is pushing back against her brother’s lawsuit ignited by her memoir.
According to the New York Post, she wants Morgan Carey‘s action tossed out, claiming her book is a “matter of public interest.” Her attorneys argue that the combination of her fame and a desire to encourage young people who have difficult family backgrounds should require more evidence to prove defamation.
Morgan Carey’s feathers were clearly ruffled by references that he calls “mere gossip and of prurient interest” — and make him appear violent toward their father. He insists the opposite was true.
He adds that The Meaning of Mariah Carey harmed his reputation and caused a potential deal for a film project to fall through.
Morgan isn’t the only Carey angry with Mariah’s book. Their sister Alison filed suit back in February.

Camila Cabello’s singing voice didn’t get her the audition that landed her in Fifth Harmony — her tears sealed the deal.
Simon Cowell remembers Camila’s first day on the X Factor set, where she was thought to be an also-ran. Cowell says she wasn’t even meant to audition. Since the auditions were running on time, Camila was a reserve. Cowell went backstage and saw her lying on the floor crying. He asked what was wrong. She said, “They won’t let me audition.” Cowell then said just go out and audition. She did, and it was amazing.... [Read Full Story]

Vogue magazine published Ariana Grande’s wedding photos. On May 15th, Ari and Dalton Gomez exchanged vows at their home before less than 20 close friends and family.
She wore a custom-designed Vera Wang gown. Her lily-white silk charmeuse dress featured a sculpted neckline and plunging back.
Ariana paid tribute to her Sweetener era by wearing an upside-down pearl and diamond earring. That combo matches the engagement ring that Dalton gave her.
Joan Grande and her father Ed Butera were on either side of Ariana to give her away.
Among her 55 tattoos, Ari chose to conceal several on her arms for the special day. (Vogue)

Shania Twain is headed back to Las Vegas for 14 new dates of her Let’s Go! residency show at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. She’ll hit the stage late in 2021, with six shows taking place in December and eight more the following February.

When she gets back to Sin City, she’ll have a lot of company: Katy Perry, Celine Dion, Luke Bryan and Carrie Underwood have all announced new residencies, while Gwen Stefani is returning this fall for her own show at Zappos, Just a Girl.
Tickets for Shania’s newly announced dates go on sale to the general public June 1 at 10AM PT.

Lady Gaga celebrated the 10th anniversary of “Born This Way” by unlocking a huge honor — getting the key to the city of West Hollywood, which declared May 23rd to be “Born This Way Day.”
West Hollywood mayor Lindsey Horvath presided over the ceremony, calling Gaga “a cultural icon for our generation… The anthem ‘Born This Way’ has become an out-and-proud declarative stance for countless LGBTQ people.”
The Mother Monster showed up in person to accept the honor, and told the crowd, “You’ve been the [bleeping] key to my heart for a long time. I’ll honor this and I’ll cherish this, and I promise that I’ll always be here for this day…to celebrate with you. To feel joy with you, to cry with you, to laugh with you. Because you know what we are? We’re poets and we’re just talking to each other.” (WeHo Times)

Gwen Stefani is all in on Las Vegas — and she’s returning to resume her long-delayed residency on the Strip.
The blonde bombshell was forced to abandon her “Just a Girl” show early last year due to the pandemic. She’ll pick up where she left off, at the Zappos Theater, for a string of dates running from October 22nd through November 9th.
Gwen initially started her hugely-popular residency back in 2018. At the time, she told the Las Vegas Review-Journal “The staircase, the old-style props where everything has glitter, the feathers and showgirls, is definitely me trying to be everything I love about Vegas and putting a modern song to it.”

Taylor Swift is only 31, but she’s already an “Icon” when it comes to songwriting.
Taylor will receive the Songwriter Icon Award at the virtual annual meeting of the National Music Publisher’s Association on June 9.  The organization notes that “no one is more influential when it comes to writing music today.”
In the last year alone, Taylor became the first woman ever to release three new number-one albums. They include the lockdown releases folklore and evermore, as well as Fearless (Taylor’s Version), the first of six planned re-recordings of her back catalog.

Making up, at least partially, for his Grammy Awards snub earlier this year, The Weeknd was the big winner at Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards in L.A. with 10 trophies.
The singer should be able to console himself with the fact that the Billboards are based on hard numbers and not voters’ whims, and that he walked away with such honors as Top ArtistTop Male ArtistTop R-&-B Artist, Top Radio Songs Artist and Top Hot 100 Song, Top R-&-B Song and Top Radio Song for “Blinding Lights.”
Other multiple winners included Coast artists Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga.
But the show was really about the performances — over a dozen of them — including hits medleys from Icon Award winner PinkAlicia KeysDuran Duran and Jonas Brothers, featuring Marshmello.
A number of artists brought family members with them, including Pink, who performed “Cover Me in Sunshine” in the air with her nine-year-old daughter, Willow. Former First Lady Michelle Obama introduced Alicia Keys’s special performance. And Jon Bon Jovi presented Pink with her Icon Award. The show aired live on NBC last night, hosted by Nick Jonas.

Ed Sheeran and Harry Styles top the Times of London‘s annual list of “wealthiest young musicians” in the U.K. and Ireland.
Ed, who’ll age out of the 30-and-under list next year, ran away with the title thanks to a fortune of $311 million. It’s a long way back to Harry, who’s “only” worth $106 million. Harry’s former One Direction mates Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne landed at fourth, fifth and sixth, with Little Mix breaking up a clean sweep with their third-place finish.
Though those numbers are pretty good, they don’t compare to the older generation on the overall list — topped by Paul McCartney, who’s worth a cool $1.1 billion dollars. Yes, with a B.

A Cher biopic is in the works. The Oscar winner announced the news herself via tweet. The movie will be written by Oscar-winning screenwriter Eric Roth, who wrote ‘Forrest Gump’ and the version of ‘A Star Is Born’ starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. No word yet on who’ll play Cher. The legendary star celebrated her 75th (yes, 75th!) birthday yesterday.

Before pop princess Ariana Grande and new husband Dalton Gomez signed their marriage license last weekend, her lawyers forced him to sign an “iron-clad pre-nup.”
Ari’s net worth exceeds $150 million. Her legal team demanded a pre-nuptial agreement to protect her money and properties. Her mother and brother were instrumental in convincing Ari into a pre-nup. A source said (quote) “They both love and trust Dalton, but even so they would be stupid to not want Ari to get a prenup.”
The lawyers spent months crafting the agreement. Dalton proposed in December. (Radar Online)

If you’re one of those people who’ll watch ANY documentary about the music business, you’re about to be tested.  Because someone made a documentary about NORWEGIAN SYNTH-POP SUPERSTARS A-HA. Yes, A-ha, the ’80s band responsible for the one-hit wonder, “Take On Me.”
The A-ha The Movie  will chart their rise to superstardom on the back of that one song. But there might be an interesting story to tell beyond that, because apparently all three original members are still together, despite the fact that they reportedly hate each other. Sources say they all arrive separately to their gigs and they DON’T hang out backstage.  They’re basically only together onstage to perform, and that’s it. Should be an interesting watch…

Pink loved recording “Lady Marmalade” with Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim and Mya, and she admits winning a Grammy for it wasn’t too shabby. But she does have one regret about the whole thing.
She tells Variety “I was not happy about my outfit. I did not want to be in booty shorts, but I got into it. Cameras started rolling and I started feeling myself. Now I look at it and I’m like, ‘Oh my god, that body. Why didn’t I appreciate it?’”
Pink’s new All I Know So Far premieres on Amazon Prime this Friday.

The wait is over for Jonas Brothers fans who’ve been waiting for the boys to get the band back together — because they’re about to hit the road.
Nick, Joe and Kevin will head out this summer for the Remember This tour, which will kick off in Las Vegas on August 20th and wrap up at the Hollywood Bowl on October 27th. Kelsea Ballerini will open all the dates.
And, yes, there’s a bit of new music in the mix, too. The JoBros will premiere the song “Remember This” on the first night of the U.S. Track & Field Trials on June 18th — and will perform the song live for the first time during NBC Universal’s coverage of the Olympic Games this summer.

And by the way, Nick Jonas is feeling fine after a bike accident over the weekend. While on the set of a show, he tells ‘Entertainment Tonight’ that something got caught and he took a tumble. He suffered a fractured rib but he’s continuing along. He was back on ‘The Voice’ on Monday as scheduled. And this weekend, he’s set to host the Billboard Awards on NBC.
The singer also says he’ll perform this weekend at the awards with his brothers.

Adam Levine is returning to The Voice — for one night only.
Billboard reports that Adam will bring Maroon 5 and Megan Thee Stallion to the show’s stage on May 25th for a performance of “Beautiful Mistakes.” It will be his first appearance on The Voice since he left his coach’s chair in 2019 after a 16-season run.
Adam picked up his joking feud with Voice mainstay Blake Shelton right where they left off, telling Billboard, “It’s good to be back on The Voice and see Carson, Kelly, Nick, and John” — making sure to leave Blake off the list.

Pink turned the celebration for the release of her new documentary into a celebration of frontline healthcare workers — by treating that group to a performance and a first look at the flick.
The singer welcomed 4,000 workers to the 17,000 capacity Hollywood Bowl for a screening of All I Know So Far, topped off with a four-song acoustic performance. Pink, who had a life-threatening case of COVID last year, explained her connection to the healthcare community, saying, “My mom was an ER nurse all of her life, and my stepmom was an Army Vietnam nurse, so I grew up in hospitals. If you put me in a hospital gown, I’ll sleep for four days.”
She went on to say, “I am so glad that we get to celebrate you all finally. We couldn’t get through any of this without you. You are tireless and dedicated and brave and we just love you love you. It means a lot to me to be here and sing for you all.”

Overnight, Demi Lovato tweeted a personal change of their pronouns to they/them. Demi Instagrammed a video announcement, too.
They tweeted in a thread (quote) “Today is a day I’m so happy to share more of my life with you all — I am proud to let you know that I identify as non-binary and will officially be changing my pronouns to they/them moving forward.”
Demi added (quote) “This has come after a lot of healing and self-reflective work. I’m still learning and coming into myself. I don’t claim to be an expert or a spokesperson. Sharing this with you now opens another level of vulnerability for me.”
They concluded (quote) “I’m doing this for those that haven’t been able to share who they truly are with their loved ones. Please keep living in your truths and know I am sending so much love your way xox.”

Lady Gaga‘s dog walker is back at work.
Ryan Fischer, who was shot and nearly killed in that scary dognapping incident earlier this year, stopped by her home Friday afternoon in L.A., according to TMZ. The gossip blog says he was “bearing gifts and looking pretty healthy in the wake of his lengthy hospital stay.”
Ryan is reportedly back to walking Gaga’s French bulldogs, but now he’s doing it in the daytime.
The last time he went for a nighttime stroll with the pooches he was shot and two of the dogs were taken.
Three of the alleged dognapper have been charged with attempted murder and robbery.
Ryan was hospitalized for several weeks and had part of a lung removed.

Pop Princess Ariana Grande is now a married woman.
She and real estate agent Dalton Gomez got hitched over the weekend in a surprise intimate ceremony at her home in Montecito, California. TMZ first broke the news, and People magazine has confirmed it with Ari’s rep. Just 20 people attended the nuptials.
The two have been together for a bit more than a year. They got engaged in December.

Coldplay are showing their support for May 27th’s Red Nose Day USA by livestreaming a concert on TikTok.

Pink, Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears were constantly battling for chart position 20 years ago — but Pink says she never saw it as a competition.
She tells People magazine, “It was so unfair to all the girls. None of us wanted that. I think we navigated through it as good as a 20-year-old girl can. Now I think it’s totally different. Girls supporting girls is rad — I love to watch it.”
Pink recalls the worst part was being marketed as “the anti-Britney” and laughs off the comparison. “I love Britney — she used to carry around my album. I was like, ‘Dude, I’m a street punk, I just skateboard. That doesn’t have to be the anti-Britney. I don’t want to fight anybody.'”
Pink’s new documentary, All I Know So Far, premieres on Amazon Prime on May 21st.

Ally Brooke is getting real about her time in Fifth Harmony. The ‘Dancing With the Stars’ alum shocked fans by saying her time in the pop supergroup was toxic and abusive. On ‘The Ally Brooke Show’ podcast, she revealed that Normani, Lauren Jauregui, Camila Cabello, Dinah Jane, and herself were very competitive and fought to sing the good parts of a song. Ally went on to say that she didn’t enjoy being in the group because of the mental and verbal abuse she endured. She says, “My time in Fifth Harmony, I didn’t…enjoy it. It was hard because there was so much going on, so much behind the scenes, so much toxicity, so much abuse…of power. So much mental abuse; verbal abuse.”

Amazon Prime Video released a pair of screen shots from the live-action Cinderella starring Camila Cabello.
The modern telling of the classic fairytale will be released to streaming in September. However, despite production concluding more than six months ago, the studio has yet to release a teaser trailer. Typically, that’s a troubling sign.
The chief at Amazon Studios, Jennifer Salke, said on Thursday, (quote) “The filmmaking team has taken this beloved fairytale and revamped it with a fresh, empowering perspective. We couldn’t be more excited for our global customers to sing and dance along to this reimagination of this classic story.”
