Will this be the summer of shopping? The president of Rakuten believes that after a year at home, people will be ready for some “revenge shopping” when the pandemic ends. “The advent of revenge shopping will resemble what we saw during the Roaring Twenties — a surging economy that will drive people to shop for more of the finer things that many felt they were deprived of due to the pandemic,” said Kristen Gall. “This last year also acted like a giant savings account for many people, which means they now actually have the means to treat themselves.” (Pure Wow)

Atkins? South Beach? Keto? These low-carb diets are all really popular. Have you tried any of them? Did you hate them? A survey by Health Digest asked respondents about the diets they tried, hated, and quit. Three of the most tried and most hated diets were all low-carb. But one was more hated than others. We’re looking at you, keto. 21% of those surveyed said they tried – and hated – the keto diet. The Atkins Diet was hated by over 16% of respondents, and 11% had no love for the South Beach diet after giving it a try.

Apparently, there are records for everything … including how long it takes to drink a Capri Sun juice pouch. Yep, there’s a Guinness world record for it – set during COVID-19 lockdowns by English college student Declan Evans. Evans has the record at 16.65 seconds, which includes the time it takes to get the attached straw out of the plastic before the drink is consumed. (Food & Wine)

Mariah Carey hit a high note during her COVID vaccine. She posted a video on Instagram of herself getting her first dose of the shot. She talked over the nurses the entire time. Then, she gave the fans what they wanted with a high-pitched Mariah scream as the needle went into her arm. She is encouraging everyone to get their shot “when they can.”

Miley Cyrus came to rock. The singer belted out iconic rock hits during her performance at the NCAA men’s final four — including Queen’s “We Will Rock You” and “Don’t Stop Me Now.” Cyrus, dressed in a black vest with matching trousers and leather gloves, also covered Stevie Nicks’ “Edge of Seventeen,” and Blondie’s “Heart of Glass.” The concert was held for an audience of frontline workers after the Baylor-Houston game. Baylor advanced to the championship game against Gonzaga on Monday.

Stevie Nicks tells Far Out Magazine that Fleetwood Mac’s song, ‘Gypsy’ came about because of a mattress on the floor. “Lindsey Buckingham and I had no money, so we had a king-size mattress, but we just had it on the floor. There was a certain calmness about it. To this day, when I’m feeling cluttered, I will take my mattress off of my beautiful bed, wherever that may be, and put it outside my bedroom, with a table and a little lamp. So that’s what ‘Gypsy’ means: it’s just a search for before this all happened.”

When Brooklynn Grehig of Racine, Wisconsin, learned that her church was collecting personal care kits for those in need, she asked her grandmother if there was anything they could do to help.
Brooklynn’s grandmother, Jacki Kirt, supported the idea — and the two started collecting the items needed, including one towel, two bars of soap, one comb, one nail clipper, and one toothbrush.
At first, they put together two kits.
Then, Brooklynn started asking family members for donations — and that number grew.
Once things were rolling, Brooklynn set a goal of 40 kits. She ended up doubling that goal — creating 82 kits — with an extra $150 donation for even more supplies.
Jacki, of course, is very proud of her granddaughter for taking what she described as a “small thing” that the two of them could do together — and making it “huge.” (WTMJ-TV)

Mia Farrow has addressed the “vicious rumors” about the deaths of three of her children.
The actress headed to Twitter Wednesday night and wrote, “Few families are perfect, and any family who has suffered the loss of a child knows that pain is merciless and ceaseless. However, some vicious rumors based on untruths have appeared online concerning the lives of my three children. To honor their memory, their children and every family that has dealt with the death of a child, I am posting this message.”
Mia then explained the how three of her adopted children died. Tam, she wrote, died at age 17 from an accidental prescription drug overdose. Lark died at age 35 from complications of HIV/AIDS. And Thaddeus died at 29 by suicide.
The Twitter posts come after the release of Allen v. Farrow, HBO’s four-part documentary about Dylan Farrow‘s molestation allegations against Woody Allen.
While the documentary doesn’t talk about the deaths of Farrow’s children, they are mentioned in a 2018 essay that has resurfaced. The essay was written by Moses Farrow, another adoptive child of Allen and Farrow, and in it, Moses defends his father and accuses Mia of abusing her adopted children.
Also an old family photo surfaced that appeared to show one of her daughters intentionally removed from the image.
Mia called the deaths “unspeakable tragedies” and added that “any other speculation about their deaths is to dishonor their lives and the lives of their children and loved ones.”

The box office is roaring back to life thanks to Godzilla and King Kong.

More than 94% of U.S. theaters have reopened, according to Warner Bros. Many, however, are running at reduced capacity.
Wonder Woman 1984 had the previous biggest opening weekend of the pandemic with $16.7 million and the best opening-day total with $7.5 million on Christmas Day.

Did Britney Spears really write that she was “embarrassed” by the documentary Framing Britney Spears? A one-time colleague doesn’t think so.
Makeup artist Billy Brasfield, who worked with Brit several years ago, tells the New York Post that he reached out to the troubled star, who told him she had “no control over the caption.” He says “I immediately knew it was not her. I texted her about it and she texted me back last night.”
Brasfield went on to insist that Britney is not as bad off as a lot of us think, saying “She is not ‘fragile.’ She does not like being a victim, she never wanted to be a victim and doesn’t see herself as a victim. She sees herself as a survivor and has navigated this with patience and strategy.”

Somebody had accidentally dropped off $42,000 in cash.
Luckily, the envelopes also had paperwork that identified who owned the money — and the store was able to return it.
The owner of the envelopes ended up surprising Andrea with $1,000 from the money she found.
Andrea appreciated the gesture and plans to spend some of her reward on an “amazing birthday party” for her six-year-old daughter. (The Norman Transcript)

NBC’s singing competition The Voice seduced Ariana Grande with a $25 million contract.
She’s easily the highest paid of the four coaches. Kelly Clarkson negotiated for $15 million, which is still more than either John Legend or Blake Shelton.
Gossip guru Rob Shuter said (quote) “Ariana is getting a whopping $20 to $25 million for the show, putting her in the same category as Katy Perry on American Idol. With John and Blake getting $13 million per season, it is the women on the show that will be making the most.”
Ariana starts her new gig this September. She’s at the top of her career, the most-streamed at Spotify among women, and The Voice would like to leverage her 229 million Instagram followers — 10-times the number of the three other Voice coaches combined. (OK!)

Legal battles between Britney Spears and her father just hit a new low. Jamie Spears now wants her to pay his $3 million attorney bills.

Earlier this month, a 6-year-old boy named Aiden from Hilliard, Ohio, completed his final chemotherapy treatment — a big step toward beating leukemia, a disease he’s been fighting since he was just two years old.
To celebrate, local police officers and firefighters showed up in his neighborhood with their squad cars for a loud parade.
The lights were on and sirens squealed as the vehicles rolled past Aiden’s house, while neighbors watched and applauded.
Normally, there’s a bell-ringing ceremony at the hospital after the final treatment. Things have changed, of course, because of coronavirus.
So instead of ringing a bell, Aiden was serenaded with sirens and flashing lights — a well-earned reward for all of his courage and hard work. (WBNS-TV)

Bryan Adams tells GuitarWorld.com that he knew he had made it as an artist when he could pay his rent by performing. “I knew I had made it the day I could pay my rent for more than a month without having to rely on anyone for support. It may not seem like much, but that was huge to me.”

The Happy Headline of the Day – Monday, March 29

When Dustin Vitale of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, learned that his mom, Gloria, had bladder cancer, he set out on a mission to take her on a big trip — the trip she always dreamed of — to see the pyramids in Egypt.
Dustin also wanted to bring along 14 family members.
This was going to be a bit of a challenge because he’s a middle school teacher — and couldn’t just write a check for such a big trip.
So, he started raising money by selling big cheesesteak sandwiches.
Word got around that these sandwiches were good — and they were for a good cause.
Friends, family members and neighbors started showing up outside his house, ordering food. Then, the news spread on social media and people were lined up down the block.
In just six weeks, Dustin raised all the money he needed to fund the trip.
Dustin is thankful to everyone who supported his goal of getting Gloria to Egypt, as the trip is now planned for later this year.
And, as he describes it, he’s also excited to see his mom “mentally as healthy as she has ever been in her whole life.” (Yahoo)

The Daily Dish – Monday, March 29

Sharon Osbourne has officially been fired by the CBS daytime show, The Talk.
In a statement CBS says, “The events of the March 10th broadcast were upsetting to everyone involved, including the audience watching at home. As part of our review, we concluded that Sharon’s behavior toward her co-hosts during the March 10th episode did not align with our values for a respectful workplace. We also did not find any evidence that CBS executives orchestrated the discussion or blindsided any of the hosts.
“At the same time, we acknowledge the Network and Studio teams, as well as the showrunners, are accountable for what happened during that broadcast as it was clear the co-hosts were not properly prepared by the staff for a complex and sensitive discussion involving race. During this week’s hiatus, we are coordinating workshops, listening sessions and training about equity, inclusion and cultural awareness for the hosts, producers and crew. Going forward, we are identifying plans to enhance the producing staff and producing procedures to better serve the hosts, the production and, ultimately, our viewers.
“The Talk will return with original episodes on Monday, April 12th, 2021, following the pre-scheduled hiatus the week of April 5th.”
This all stems from Sharon defending her friend, British journalist Piers Morgan, when he blasted Meghan Markle following her CBS interview with Oprah Winfrey on March 7th.
“I feel like I’m about to be put in an electric chair because I have a friend who many people think is a racist, so that makes me a racist,” said Sharon who then challenged the other hosts to tell her “what he’s uttered that’s racist.”
Co-host Sheryl Underwood responded that “the implication” of Morgan dismissing Markle was racist, rather than the words themselves.
Sharon then asked, “Why can’t it be he just doesn’t like her? Why does it have to be racist?”
Following the show, Sharon tweeted a lengthy apology in which she said she does not “condone racism, misogyny or bullying.”
“I should have been more specific about that in my tweet,” she continued, referencing her original defense of Morgan online. “I will always support freedom of speech, but now I see how I unintentionally didn’t make that clear distinction.”
Everything then spiraled downward for Sharon as current and former staff members said Sharon and others on the show were racially insensitive.
Sharon has yet to comment on yesterday’s developments.

Woody Allen has again denied sexually ab usig his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow.
This time, the director addressed the allegations in an interview on CBS Sunday Morning.
In the sit-down, which was taped in July, the director says, “I believe she thinks it. She was a good kid. I do not believe that she’s making it up. I don’t believe she’s lying. I believe she believes that.”
The interview was conducted several months before the recent HBO docuseries Allen vs. Farrow, which explores the allegations and has renewed interest in the case.
CBS says this was Allen’s first in-depth, on-camera American interview in nearly 30 years.
Allen, who has never been charged with any crimes, says, “It’s so preposterous, and yet the smear has remained. And they still prefer to cling to if not the notion that I molested Dylan, the possibility that I molested her. Nothing that I ever did with Dylan in my life could be misconstrued as that.”
He added, “There was no logic to it, on the face of it. Why would a guy who’s 57 years old and never accused of anything in my life, I’m suddenly going to drive up in the middle of a contentious custody fight at Mia’s country home (with) a 7-year-old girl. It just – on the surface, I didn’t think it required any investigation, even.”

TODAY IS:
  • National Vietnam War Veterans Day
  • National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day

Does what you drink on a first date matter? Apparently so, according to a new survey by Jack Daniel’s. In fact, 30% of those surveyed said they’ve ended a date early because of what their date ordered to drink. And it seems this is a bigger deal for men than women. 60% of the guys surveyed said a date’s bad drink order would be a “deal breaker,” compared to 32% of women.
So what drinks are people impressed by?
1. Martini – 60%
2. Gin and Tonic – 46%
3. Manhattan – 45%
4. Old Fashioned – 43%
5. (tie) Cosmo – 42%; Whiskey Sour – 42%
So what drink makes a bad impression? A Long Island Iced Tea.
The survey also found that 37% feel so much pressure for that first-date drink order that they order something “fancy” that they usually don’t drink. (SWNS)

Seems the “never go to bed angry” advice is true … and it extends to all types of relationships. A new study from Oregon State University found that it’s NOT good to sleep on things – whether it’s an argument with your significant other or an argument with a co-worker. According to researchers, it’s best to resolve issues right away, rather than allowing them to fester – which can affect both your mental and physical health. In fact, according to the study, resolving issues right away can lead to a longer, healthier, and happier life.

What’s your go-to midnight snack? If your late-night hunger pangs come in a pint, you’re not alone. According to a recent Health Digest survey, 30% of people choose ice cream as their fav late-night snack. Potato chips are a close second choice of late-night snackers.
