14-year-old Anika Chebrolu of Frisco, Texas, was named the winner of the 2020 3M Young Scientist Challenge, a competition for middle school scientists.
She started her project two years ago, researching the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918. And then, the coronavirus hit and Anika shifted her focus to the modern pandemic we’re facing.
Anika worked with a database of almost 698 million molecules and made a powerful discovery that could actually lead to a potential cure.
She was thrilled to win the $25,000 grand prize, but is also proud to be an example to other kids, showing them that they can accomplish anything they want.

With the pandemic, it has been difficult building the same excitement around the show, which is why the personal life of every single person sitting in a red chair will now be highlighted even more than ever before — with Blake and Gwen feeling pressured to deliver a ‘surprise’ engagement proposal on the show. E! News says an Elton John inspired Barbie doll went on sale yesterday. The doll has bell bottom j eans, electric boots and pink sunglasses. Carole Baskin isn’t laughing at Joe Exotic‘s new underwear line — which features “Casket Baskin Briefs.”
The bloomers show a hand holding a red ice cream cone as blood rains down. Carole’s legal team has sent a cease-and-desist letter to Joe and the makers of the line, according to TMZ.
She’s threatening legal action if the merch isn’t pulled.
TMZ says the Casket Baskin boxer briefs, which go for $29, are Joe’s “top seller.”

So, according to a new study, dogs are more partial to certain kinds of music – specifically, reggae and soft rock. Researchers from the University of Glasgow in Scotland and the Scottish SPCA found that those two genres of music made pups happiest. Other studies have found that classical music has a calming effect on dogs, while heavy metal increases stress and anxiety. So, it sounds like you should keep The Coast on all day in the house to keep yourself, and your puppies, happy.

The Irish Mirror says Ed Sheeran is auctioning off his childhood toys and handwritten lyrics to benefit several UK charities.
Justin Bieber tells Business Insider that he’s learned from the many mistakes he’s made. “I just felt like I lost my place for a while. I lost my purpose, and I wanted to just be light and let people know that whether you don’t feel like you have a purpose, whether you’re just trying to figure it out, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.”
Lewis Capaldi tells The Sun newspaper that he is hard at work on his next album. “I’ve got loads of songs done for it. I’ve written about 30 so far in the course of lockdown — it’s been a fruitful and a busy pandemic for me, but four of them are good. There are four songs that I’m pretty pleased with.”
KRON says Beyonce recently sent flowers and cards to a 13 year-old Oakland teen, who is battling brain cancer. Lyric Jacks is currently in a Houston hospital where she is receiving treatment.

Quibi, the mobile streaming service that launched earlier this year, is already shutting down.
Co-founder Jeffrey Katzenberg called investors on Wednesday to break the news. Deadline says the “management team is exploring options including selling content — it has 100 shows — or the entire service should a buyer emerge.”
It should take several months to wind down the short-form streaming platform, which is available only on mobile devices.
Anna Kendrick and Kiefer Sutherland were among the big names who had shows.
Sharon Osbourne mentioned her various suicide attempts earlier this month on The Talk, but she elaborates in a recent interview with The New York Post.
The talk-show host says, “People look at me like, ‘Oh, she’s so strong. She’s such a loudmouth, she’s this, she’s that.’ But that’s just one side of me. When you’re the matriarch of a family and run a business and work at your own career, things just pile up.”
Sharon attempted suicide three times, the most recent time in 2015. She explains, “I was at the point several times where I just couldn’t take it anymore.”
The star, who’s been married to rocker Ozzy Osbourne for 38 years, says she wants to help remove the stigma associated with mental-health issues. Sharon reveals that she keeps her mental health in check with medication and therapy.

The nominees for the 63rd Grammy Awards will be announced via an hour-long livestream on November 24th.
Recording Academy Chair and Interim President and CEO Harvey Mason Junior will be joined by past Grammy winners, nominees and hopefuls from remote locations across the country as he reveals the nominees for all 84 categories on Grammy.com.
Immediately following, the complete nominees list will be available through Grammy.com and the Recording Academy’s social media platforms.
The Grammys will air on January 31st on CBS.
Kelly Clarkson takes requests at her concerts, and it turns out she does the same during her talk show.
She proved that on Tuesday by devoting her “Kelly-Oke” segment to a version of Norah Jones‘s timeless “Don’t Know Why” — which she chose for a heartwarming reason. A fan named Stephanie from Baltimore asked Kel to tackle the tune because of her personal connection to it: Stephanie’s first-ever concert was a Norah Jones show that her mom brought her to when she was 12 years old. Her mom and bridesmaids later walked down the aisle to “Don’t Know Why” at her wedding.

A teenager in Forsyth County, Georgia, has turned her passion for making jewelry into a charity effort that helps a hospital in India.
A few years ago, Dhriti Pentela visited India and volunteered at a hospital that runs entirely off donations.
She was so amazed by what she saw that she wanted make an impact after returning back home to Georgia.
So, she created a charity organization called Empathy Designs, which allows her to create and sell jewelry — and then send the profits to that hospital.
Her website, EmpathyDesigns.org, is now her online store and it features earrings, necklaces and bracelets.
The effort has been such a big success that she now donates to multiple organizations, both overseas and in her community.
Dhriti says it “feels amazing” to do something she loves — that also makes a difference in communities all around the world.

In England, a 93-year-old woman called the police because her beloved dog, Toby, had gone missing. She hadn’t seen Toby in two days and was very worried.
The police took down the report — and followed up by visiting the woman to perform a wellness check.
While talking to the woman, the officer reached down on the floor to pick up something that had fallen over and — wouldn’t you know it? — the officer found the dog … stuck underneath the woman’s recliner.
Fortunately, Toby was in good health. He was a bit hungry and thirsty, but otherwise was totally fine.
After freeing the dog from beneath the chair, the officer fed him and gave him some water.
The woman, of course, was very thankful to be reunited with Toby and appreciative of the care the officer showed her. (Fox News)

Jeff Bridges has been diagnosed with lymphoma.
The Big Lebowski star broke the news on Twitter Monday writing: “As the Dude would say… New [stuff] has come to light.”
He added, “I have been diagnosed with lymphoma. Although it is a serious disease, I feel fortunate that I have a great team of doctors and the prognosis is good. I’m starting treatment and will keep you posted on my recovery.”
In a second tweet, the 70-year-old star thanked his friends and family and encouraged everyone to vote.
What’s the scariest movie of all time? Science has the answer.
A new study ranked the most terrifying horror flicks by monitoring viewers’ average heart rates. And according to the BroadBandChoices “Science of Scare” project, the movie that got hearts pumping the most was 2012’s Sinister, starring Ethan Hawke.
Viewers experienced a 32% rise in their heart rate, on average – from 65 beats per minute to 86.
However, Insidious had the scariest moment with an average jump to 133 bpm, while Sinister‘s moment had hearts rising to 131 bpm.

Yep, superglue is super strong – and they’re having a super hard time getting the fangs off. There are tons of videos of teens yanking on their teeth to try and remove them. No surprise – dentists are warning against this. First, they say to never use superglue or nail glue on your teeth. If you’ve tried it and your fangs get stuck, see a dentist immediately to remove them. If you aren’t able to see a dentist, don’t pull on them – just leave them alone until they fall off on their own. And if you really want to put fangs on your teeth for Halloween, dentists say to use something safe – like denture adhesive. (Insider)
A new study by Maastricht University in the Netherlands reveals that mood lighting in restaurants may make food taste bad. Researchers say, ”Guests dining in a brightly lit restaurant perceive the overall taste of a dish – created for the purpose of the study – to be more intense than guests dining in a dimly lit restaurant. The results thus show that modifying the ambient illuminance level in a restaurant does not only affect the overall ambience, but also changes the overall taste experience of the food being served”
The Daily Mail says brushing your teeth can help ward off the coronavirus because toothpaste contains some of the same antibacterials as hand sanitizer.
Professor Martin Addy tells the paper, ”Toothpaste contains the same detergents as those found in handwash gels recommended. The antimicrobial action of toothpaste in the mouth persists for three to five hours and, thereby, would reduce the viral load in saliva or infection by viruses entering the mouth. For the vast majority, the timing of tooth brushing should be focused when they are about to go out of their homes for exercise or shopping. Ideally, tooth brushing frequency should be increased.”

Demi Lovato has been having some really spaced-out experiences lately — with actual visitors from space.

She wrote, “Over the past couple months I have dug deep into the science of consciousness and experienced not only peace and serenity like I’ve never known, but I also have witnessed the most incredibly profound sightings both in the sky as well as feet away from me.”

Lily James apparently doesn’t want to answer questions about getting cozy with married co-star Dominic West. She’s reportedly canceled an appearance on the Today show set for Monday.
A source tells Page Six that Lily was supposed to promote her new Netflix drama Rebecca, alongside co-star Armie Hammer, on the morning talk show, but she pulled out over the weekend.
Lily was photographed kissing Dominic in Rome, where they reportedly shared a suite in the Hotel De La Ville.
Last week, he and his wife Catherine FitzGerald did damage control, kissing for the paparazzi and handing photographers a note that read, “Our marriage is strong and we’re very much still together.”
Former Home Improvement star Zachery Ty Bryan was arrested in Oregon on Saturday for allegedly trying to strangle his girlfriend.
Police were called to Bryan’s residence in Eugene Friday night after a neighbor reported a “physical dispute.”
The 39-year-old was taken into custody and charged with strangulation, assault in the fourth degree and interfering with making a report, according to OregonLive.com.

Sam Smith is still single — and now has one less place to go looking for love.
In an appearance on Watch What Happens Live Thursday night, Sam answered a fan question by saying, “I’m still single, I’m on the frontline with all the single people. It’s been difficult… I’ve gone on all the apps and stuff… That’s all I’ve got.”
When host Andy Cohen followed up by asking the star about those apps, Sam replied that it didn’t work out well on Hinge. “They chucked me off of it after one night ’cause they thought I was a catfish pretending to be me.”
One of Taylor Swift‘s high school besties just gave us a peek into Tay’s past — by opening up their yearbook for a look inside.
Christina Hamilton dusted off the treasure for a TikTok conversation that asked, “Who’s the most famous person from your school?” She shared a bunch of photos, as well as Tay’s senior sign-off, which read “X-Tina, so I’ve come to terms with the fact that I wish I looked like you, dressed like you, danced like you, and pretty much will want to be you for the rest of my life…so have a nice summer knowing that it is DISGUSTING how beautiful you are.
