Do you suffer from nomophobia? Nomophobia is the fear of being without your smartphone — and a new study found that 90% of college students have this fear. Researchers found that nomophobia is also linked to unhealthy sleep habits. “We found that college students who experience more ‘nomophobia’ were also more likely to experience sleepiness and poorer sleep hygiene such as long naps and inconsistent bed and wake times,” said lead author Dr. Jennifer Peszka of Hendrix College in Arkansas.

A sanitation crew cleaning out a public vault toilet in Montana’s Flathead National Forest were surprised to find a “poop-soaked phone in the toilet tank, and even more surprised that it still worked.
The guys used a grabber to pull the phone out and cleaned it off. After letting it dry out for a couple of days they plugged it in and were shocked that it powered up. The screen was locked, but they were eventually able to bypass the passcode and left a voicemail for the phone’s owner with a callback number.
A woman called them back and said she knew she had dropped the phone down the toilet, but was shocked that they were actually able to get it out. The phone is now on its way back to its grateful owner. (KRTV-TV)

The MTV VMAs made the most of their New York City backdrop Sunday night, with performances from iconic locations all over the Big Apple. Other remote performances made the most of green screen and graphics to make it look as if they were in N.Y.C., with many pre-taped.
Other than that, Lady Gaga’s dominance was the story of the night, as she came out five different times to receive award after award, rocking a unique outfit complete with mask each time, and she also performed with Ariana Grande.
The evening kicked off with host Keke Palmer denouncing police brutality and dedicating the show to Chadwick Boseman.
Other highlights included:
  • The Weeknd performed “Blinding Lights” 1,000 feet above Manhattan complete with a light show and fireworks display, as well as makeup that made it look like he’d been beat up.
  • Miley Cyrus served up throwback vibes with “Midnight Sky.”
  • BTS performed “Dynamite.”
  • Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande performed “Rain on Me” and later, Gaga sat down at a piano that looked like a giant brain to perform “Stupid Love.”

National Red Wine Day … It’s Friday – and in case you need another excuse to have some wine, today is a great day to have a glass or three of your favorite red.

And if you don’t make your bed every day, here’s more incentive: The survey found that people who make their beds every day are having more sex during quarantine than those who don’t make their bed. And another reason to make your bed … 48% of the bed-makers surveyed said the quality of their sleep had increased – even during these uncertain times. 30% of non-bed-makers reported a decrease in the quality of their sleep. 2020 has been a very rough year for everybody … especially if your name happens to be Karen. The Karen meme really took off this year and is used to describe any middle-aged entitled woman or someone who complains and asks to speak to the manager. And 18% of respondents said they would feel uneasy if their mother-in-law had the name. (Sky News)

The #LayOnYourToddlerChallenge is the latest TikTok trend, and while it sounds weird, just watching a few of the short videos will have you tearing up with major feels. Here’s how it works: Parents simply lay their head on their toddler’s lap while they are watching their favorite TV show and wait to see what happens. Sure, some toddlers are not happy about getting disrupted during Paw Patrol, but more often than not, your heart will absolutely melt when you see how much they love showing mom or dad affection. It’s a great reminder to simply stop and have a cuddle every once in a while. If you need a smile, it’s certainly the sweetest thing you’ll see all day. (GMA)

Music News – Thursday, August 27

Britney Spears would like control of her life again at some point — and her dad Jamie to get out of her life.
People reports a source close to Britney saying the star “still wants the conservatorship to end at some point. But more urgently right now she doesn’t want her dad to regain the sole conservator role.”
The conservatorship was recently extended through February of next year. Jamie asked the court to become the sole person in charge again after he took on help in September 2019 because of health issues. Britney “strongly prefers” that Jodi Montgomery, the licensed conservator who came on board, to “continue in that role as [she] has done for nearly a year.”
The source says, “Britney wants someone who is respectful and considerate to be in charge of her conservatorship. Someone from the outside who is not her family. Someone who will treat her like an adult and listen to her. She will never have this relationship with Jamie… She dreams about the conservatorship ending, but this doesn’t seem realistic. She needs to be surrounded by people who look out for her.”

Fans of the late R&B star have lamented for years that the only way you can access her music in the modern era is on Youtube. Yesterday (Tuesday), on the 19th anniversary of her tragic death, Aaliyah’s estate updated fans on the status of her catalog on streaming services. The official Twitter for Aaliyah posted, “To our loyal fans, We are excited to announce that communication has commenced between the estate and various record labels about the status of Aaliyah’s music catalog, as well as its availability on streaming platforms in the near future. Thanks to Paxton’s hard work and generous spirit, there are now 75 Paxton’s Blessing Boxes found outside homes and schools in Sedgwick County, Kansas — as well as other parts of Kansas and even in five other states.
And, his efforts to help those in need get food with no questions asked has resulted in Paxton winning a special humanitarian award during a virtual ceremony.
Paxton is clearly wise beyond his years, explaining that he thinks it’s “pretty cool” that he can “help people who sometimes don’t have the stuff that he has.” (The Wichita Eagle)

Justin Timberlake tells Apple Radio that he and Timbaland created “Sexyback” while listening to David Bowie. ”I was listening to David Bowie’s Rebel Rebel, which essentially is about a cross-dresser, and so I was picturing guys, girls, all iterations of that in a club, singing this to each other.  And I said, this has to be so simple and a vibe and just like an attitude. And I was like, what’s the most audacious thing you could possibly say. And that was the first line of the song. We got to bring dance music back’: And the funny thing is Tim’s playing the beat, right? This is exactly how it happened. I’ll never forget this moment. So he’s like, “All right man. Two sisters from Nebraska who haven’t seen each other in 53 years were – amazingly – reunited, due to coronavirus.
Back in May, 73-year-old Doris Crippen ended up in the emergency room and battled back from coronavirus.
When Doris was released from the hospital, she had to spend some extra time getting some rehab work on her arm.
It was in the rehab center that she encountered a wonderful surprise … Her long-lost sister, 53-year-old Bev Boro, was working there.
Bev recognized Doris’ name on a patient board – and the lives of the two women changed forever.
Doris and Bev have the same father, but different mothers – and they haven’t seen each other in 53 years, when Bev was just a baby.
Doris admitted that she had tried to find her siblings several times over the years, but failed.
It ended up taking a global pandemic to, finally, bring these two women together… and inspire them to begin planning a family reunion. (WTTG-TV)

Since most of us can’t go out to shows right now, OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder wants to bring shows to us — in a new concert docu-series he’s planning.
Ryan detailed the concept in an Instagram live chat, saying, “It’s the most famous venues in the world, which are now sitting dormant for the next 12 or 15 months. Basically I miss Unplugged, I miss MTV Behind the Music. I miss the concert experience, but it’s a different way with the stories behind the hits and songs that change your life.”
He added that there’s an upside for both artists and fans. “I’ve kind of Frankenstein’ed my version of that called One Night Only and the biggest artists in the world performing at whatever venue they choose, doing all their hits and being able to launch a new single, launch a new album off the back of each episode.”
There’s nothing set in stone yet, but Tedder says he’s been talking to a lot of executives about the idea.
