It looks like there will be a new Coldplay album this year.
The British tabloid The Sun had it confirmed by a source close to the band, who tells them that Chris Martin and company have been recording throughout the pandemic lockdown. The insider claims they’ve been “dropping hints” about it for a while, but that their ninth album is “finally getting off the ground.” It’s got a working title already, Music of the Spheres. That tidbit is supported by a visit to the website of Britain’s Intellectual Property Office, where you can find the band’s trademark application for it.
It will reportedly be used on “merchandise and everything they’d need for a tour,” according to the source, who adds, “It’s a really exciting time for everyone involved.”

Elton John tells NBC that he still loves making music. “I love it as much now as I did. I don’t like the fame part of it, and I don’t like the technology part of it so much. But, the thrill of the music will never die for me … when you hear somebody young, like Lorde making a record like she did, I am flabbergasted. And it makes you want to write the best song in the world, because you just cannot believe that this music has come out of someone so young, and so brilliant..”

John Mellencamp tells Time magazine that he values his alone time. “I need pretty much complete isolation just to exist. Just to be alive, to live. I prefer not to be around a lot of people. I don’t know that that has much to do with being an artist, but that’s just the way I prefer to live and that’s why I live where I live. I live on 86 acres in the middle of nowhere, and I get to a town if I need supplies.”

A California man had his wallet returned after losing it in Antarctica … 53 years ago.
Paul Grisham was serving in the Navy back in 1967 as a meteorologist — and spent 13 months monitoring the weather in Antarctica.
Somehow, he lost his wallet down there and — after returning home — never thought he’d see it again.
Well, workers in Antarctica demolished an old building and, behind a locker, found Paul’s wallet. It had Paul’s Navy ID, his driver’s license, a tax statement, and records of his poker winnings.
Stephen Decato, who was doing research in Antarctica, worked with his daughter Sarah Lindbergh to track down Paul, who is now 91 years old and living in San Diego, California.
Finally, about a week ago, Stephen and Sarah were able to send Paul his long-lost wallet.
Sarah described the mission and all the detective work they did to find Paul as “feel-good thing to do,” explaining that Stephen “is proud to have things in their rightful places.” (Daily Mail)

Legendary actor Christopher Plummer has died. He was 91.
Born and raised in Montreal, Plummer started out acting in both English and French. But his turn as Captain Georg von Trapp in The Sound of Music, opposite Julie Andrews, catapulted him into superstardom in English-language productions.
Other notable films include The Man Who Would Be King, Battle of Britain, Waterloo, Twelve MonkeysA Beautiful MindNational Treasure and Syriana. He worked nearly to the end of his life, also winning acclaim for his role in the hit mystery Knives Out. He had an Oscar, two Tonys and two Emmys on his mantel.

Who says superheroes don’t get hurt? Thor star Chris Hemsworth was rushed to the hospital over the weekend after suffering an “acute back injury,” possibly delaying production on the next movie in the franchise.
Chris was taken to the emergency room in Gold Coast, Australia, about 30 miles north of his home in Byron Bay. He needed to travel to reach orthopedic spinal specialists. A friend said the facilities at Byron Bay Hospital “were not adequate” to treat his injuries.
Thor: Love and Thunder is filming in Sydney. Chris urged the studio to shoot in Australia, which has fewer COVID cases than the United States. (Daily Telegraph)

Prince Harry joined James Corden for what could be an epic Carpool Karaoke.
They were safely distanced and outdoors on the top level of an open-air double-decker bus. Los Angeles police escorted the British duo Friday afternoon through the streets of Hollywood. Harry’s private bodyguards were never far away.
An insider told People magazine, “They taped a COVID-appropriate segment of Carpool Karaoke on the double decker. A lot of joking around and laughter. They also chatted about Harry’s life in the United States and his focus now.”

TODAY IS:
National Football Hangover Day…for obvious reasons.

Going Dutch on the first date is the new norm … A new survey found that 56% of singles think the bill should always be split on the first date. Even those planning to pay for the date have expectations … 68% said they expect their date to at least offer to pay half. (SWNS)

Tip of the day: Don’t put Gorilla Glue or Liquid Nails or any other adhesive on your hair … TikTok might be a treasure trove of awesome beauty tips and styling tricks, but not every person offering advice actually knows what they’re talking about. Case in point, #gorillagluegirl. Chances are you’ve seen the viral video featuring a young woman who ran out of hairspray and decided to use gorilla glue spray adhesive on her head instead. Yeah, she actually did that. Not only did it glue her hair to her head like a Ken doll, but it resulted in a trip to the emergency room. Gorilla Glue even reached out to offer suggestions, but the outlook was grim because apparently her hair had been glued to her head for a month – so treatments like rubbing alcohol combined with shampooing with warm water no longer worked. According to the brand, it’s likely she actually glued her now broken hair to her scalp! Sadly, the hospital sent her home with suggestions for removal, and the latest YouTube video had her and a friend attempting — through much pain — to try to remove the glue. We are all waiting anxiously for updates and hoping for the best, but PSA: Don’t use Gorilla Glue or any adhesive on your hair … ever. (Health)

Taylor Swift tells The Guardian newspaper that the music business can sometimes feel like ‘The Hunger Games’. “Pop music can feel like it’s The Hunger Games, and like we’re gladiators. And you can really lose focus of the fact that that’s how it feels because that’s how a lot of Twitter and tabloids and blogs make it seem – the overanalyzing of everything makes it feel really intense.”

TMZ says Phil Collins’ ex-wife, Orianne Cevey, made over $2 million dollars selling her clothing, jewelry and Phil’s gold records. Some of his records sold for as much as $22,000.

Jon Bon Jovi tells The Guardian newspaper that his house is surprisingly normal. “My life is much more normal than one would imagine. There are no platinum records hanging anywhere in my house. The trappings of rock stardom were never a part of my home.”

Mick Fleetwood tells Classic Rock magazine that he can’t remember two years of his life because he partied so hard after making the ”Rumours” album. “It got out of hand way after the making of ‘Rumours’. I remember not working for two years. I can’t even remember what I did. I was the party animal in the band, for sure. I wanted venture to say, Stevie was a close second.”

The New England Patriots will not be in the Super Bowl this Sunday, but the owner of the team — Robert Kraft — is making sure some local fans are a part of the festivities — by using his private plane to fly them to Tampa Bay, Florida, for the game.
The Patriots received 76 tickets to the game between the Buccaneers and the Chiefs. Kraft decided to hand those rare and special tickets out to healthcare workers in the area to thank them for putting their “lives on the line.”
Not only are the healthcare workers getting tickets, they’re also getting a first class trip down to Florida on the team jet.
Kraft invited the lucky fans over a bunch of video conference calls.
All 76 of the frontline fans have been vaccinated — and the team hopes this will inspire others to get vaccinated as well.
These fans won’t be alone, of course, as 7,500 other vaccinated health care workers will be there as guests invited by the NFL.
It’s just that some of them — probably most of them — will not have arrived on a VIP team plane. (CBS Sports)

The Daily Dish – Golden Globes Edition – Thursday, February 4

coast-daily-dish-flipper
Nominations for the Golden Globes were announced Wednesday, and as with all award shows there were a number of snubs and surprises.
SNUBS
Despite being the most buzzed-about show this year, Bridgerton scored exactly zero nominations.
The critically acclaimed HBO series I May Destroy You also came up empty-handed.
After a long stint away from the silver screen, 86-year-old Sophia Loren returned in the drama The Life Ahead to wonderful reviews, but it wasn’t enough for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to recognize her.
HBO’s Lovecraft Country is up for Best Television Drama Series — but none of the cast (Jurnee Smollett, Jonathan Majors, Courtney B. Vance) got nominated.
SURPRISES
James Corden caught quite a backlash for his turn as a flamboyantly gay Broadway actor in The Prom, but the Late Late Show host still managed to score a nod for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy.
A record three women are up for best movie director — Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman), Regina King (One Night in Miami) and Chloe Zhao (Nomadland). Only five other women total have been nominated in the category in the show’s entire history.
Kaley Cuoco scored her first Golden Globe nomination, for her HBO Max series The Flight Attendant.
Despite Emily in Paris being mercilessly mocked, Lily Collins‘ performance as an American working at a French marketing firm earned her a place in the category for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series — Musical or Comedy
Sacha Baron Cohen scored two nominations — one for Borat Subsequent Moviefilm (Best Actor – Musical or Comedy) and the other for The Trial of the Chicago 7 (Best Supporting Actor).
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler host the 78th Golden Globes live on NBC February 28th.

Speaking of food … Seems because we’ve all been cooking at home more – and have more leftovers – we also have more food in the fridge that has gone bad … food that we’ve basically forgotten about. A new OnePoll survey found that the average American has at least five things in the fridge that have gone bad. And according to the poll, the average person thinks it will take about five weeks before their find the foulest food in their fridge.

Take your job on the road … Perhaps with the new digital nomad worker in mind, Airstream has introduced the Flying Cloud trailer. The new RV features a built-in office so you can work while exploring the country or simply park and have a different office view every day. The new model starts at around $107,000, but when you consider it’s basically a house on wheels, it’s really not such a bad deal. Too bad WiFi isn’t included, although apparently they do offer plans through AT&T starting at $25 per month. (Car & Driver)

How do you feel about couples posting Public Displays of Affection on social media? You may hate it, but a new survey found that 46% of people in relationships said they want their significant other to post more “online PDA.” But get this … 51% of the same survey respondents also said that they judged people negatively if they posted too much couple content. So … kinda like with selfies, people like their own PDA on social media, but not so much when it comes to other people. (SWNS)

And, it looks like the Groundhog was right. It appears that every single state in the US is gonna see below freezing temperatures over the next week. Even Hawaii – which doesn’t happen a lot. Next Monday’s gonna be especially cold. Locally, because of the frigid temps that swoop in to the area starting today, we’ll be susceptible to lake effect snow potential of several inches per day starting today over the next week. Forecasters are blaming something called a polar vortex, which is just a fancy way of saying…winter.

Taylor Swift just got slapped with yet another lawsuit — by an amusement park that’s not amused by the title of her latest album.
Ken Bretschneider, the CEO  of Evermore Park in Pleasant Grove, Utah, filed the suit on Tuesday, claiming the park has “invested $37 million in promoting the Evermore brand. The Utah Evermore sells a line of clothing bearing the word, and even sells theme music under the Evermore name via Apple Music and other services.
Tay’s reps dismissed the cease-and-desist request, saying that the park actually tried to capitalize on the name similarity in some social media circles. They also say that Swift’s album cover showed the title in all lowercase letters, making it different than the title-case Evermore Park.
Taylor ran into similar problems with Folklore, when a Black-owned clothing company charged her with infringement. They reached an out-of-court settlement. (KDVR)

Lady Gaga has opened up about how the pandemic hit home for her — after a relative spent two months in the hospital due to COVID.
Gaga has been vocal in urging fans to heed warnings about the spread of the virus, and tells People that things were touch and go in her family. She says, “A very important member of my family was very, very ill recently and in the hospital for almost two months. I was in the ICU by myself many times because you can’t go in with more than one person, if you can go in at all. I have never seen the heroic acts of bravery that I witnessed, watching these doctors and nurses and people that were cleaning at the hospitals.”
Gaga’s one of the spokespeople for the WELL Health-Safety Seal, which verifies that buildings have taken the necessary steps to protect against the spread of the virus.

Dolly Parton is celebrating those working outside business hours. In a new Super Bowl ad for Squarespace, the Queen of Nashville re-works her famous hit ‘9 to 5’ and sings about ‘5 to 9.’ It’s an ode to those working second jobs or “side hustles” from 5pm to 9am. She says she thought doing things this way was a fun way to call attention to people trying to start their own business while giving those same people a chance to actually be in the commercial.

In Roeland Park, Kansas, Stephanie Lindquist-Johnson and her six-year-old son Phillip came up with a great idea to help stray cats — and other animals — in the area.
They realized that foam coolers could be turned into little shelters. So, they posted a message on a neighborhood website, asking people in the community to donate those coolers instead of throwing them away.
Dozens of neighbors responded, so Stephanie and Phillip got to work, turning the coolers into shelters.
The timing was perfect, as winter weather has set in. Stephanie and Phillip, with many thanks to the neighbors who are pitching in with their cooler donations, have been able to help outdoor cats, raccoons and possums — along with many other animals — survive the frigid winter weather.
Those coolers are being repurposed — and animals are being helped (The Kansas City Star)

Jenna Jameson reveals she dumped Marilyn Manson because he was “a lot.”
The former adult film star, who had a brief romance with the shock rocker in 1997, tells the Daily Mail, “We didn’t go out long because I cut it off after he would nonchalantly say he fantasized about burning me alive.”
Jenna says, “Once he started speaking to me violently, I was like … goodbye, Brian,” using the musician’s real name, Brian Warner.
She added, “Also the bruises from him biting me weren’t fun. Sexually he liked to bite, and it was disconcerting. He is a lot. To say the least.”
Manson was dropped by his record label Monday after several of his exes, including actress Evan Rachel Wood, accused him of abuse.
Manson insists the accusations are “horrible distortions of reality.”

The nominations for the NAACP Image Awards have been announced. The ABC Sitcom Black-ish leads the way in the TV categories with 11 nods. Beyonce is the top music nominee with five. Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey leads all films with 10 nominations.
The NAACP Image Awards air on BET on March 27th.

The Sun says Dustin Diamond will be cremated and buried without a gravestone. His friend tells the paper, “He wants to be cremated, he did not want to have a gravestone and he did not want to have a big funeral so it’s just going to be a memorial with a few family and friends. He said he didn’t want to have a gravestone because he was worried people would mess with it just like they messed with him when he was alive. He just wants to be left in peace to leave the world. I think I might do a plaque because he filmed at one of my locations, so maybe I’ll put something there, so that if somebody wanted to go and see something they could. But he was clear he didn’t want a gravestone.
Justin’s manager, Roger Paul, tells People magazine, ”He had been feeling out of sorts and he’d had a lump on his neck that he was ignoring. He was afraid of the public attention if he went into the hospital. But finally, his girlfriend took him and the doctors confirmed it was cancer. Of course he was scared, but he tried to find the humor in it. Dustin tried to be as positive as he could throughout everything — that’s who he was — but he was scared. Do you ever force yourself to stay up, even if you’re tired, because you feel like you didn’t have enough time to yourself during the day? You know … you’re tired and need to get up early in the morning, but you just keep stubbornly scrolling on your phone. Well, get this – there’s a name for that. Psychologists call it “revenge bedtime procrastination.” Saman Haider, who is a pre-med psychology student at the University of Iowa, stumbled upon the phrase one night while she was doing that very thing and made a TikTok video to share the info and see if other people could relate. The video has been viewed 13.6 million times … and, yes, LOTS of people could relate. (Glamour)

Mariah Carey‘s estranged sister Alison has filed a lawsuit against the star, claiming she suffered “emotional distress” from the way she was portrayed in Mimi’s recent memoir.
Alison, who’s gone through periods of homelessness and drug addiction, and spent time as a sex worker, says her sister fabricated several ugly stories in The Meaning of Mariah Carey. In the book, Mariah says that her older sister tried to sell her to a pimp when she was just 12 years old. She also claims that Alison threw a pot of scalding tea on her, causing third-degree burns.
Alison, who’s representing herself, is seeking $1.25 million in damages. (OK!)

In fact, Sydney has gotten so good and so fast at her craft that she’s created dozens of knit hats for the homeless.
Her neighbors learned about what she’s been up to — and donated extra yarn to her cause. It’s all being put to good use.
Sydney says she crochets around four hours each day — and now has a goal of creating 200 hats for the homeless, explaining it’s all worthwhile because “even if you can only help one person — that’s one life you’ve changed.” (Bay News 9)

Former Saved by the Bell star Dustin Diamond has died. He was just 44.
Diamond had stage-four lung cancer, and after the news broke just last month, his condition had rapidly worsened in the past week. According to TMZ, his girlfriend was at his side when he passed. He did not have any children.
In a statement, his team said, “Dustin did not suffer. He did not have to lie submerged in pain. For that, we are grateful.”
Diamond rose to fame on the teen comedy but led a rockier adult life, directing and possibly starring in a sex tape, and spending a few months in prison. His Saved by the Bell co-star Mario Lopez tweeted, “Dustin, you will be missed my man. The fragility of this life is something never to be taken for granted. Prayers for your family will continue on…”

Shock Rocker Marilyn Manson has been accused of abuse by Evan Rachel Wood and three other women.
The women made their claims in Instagram posts on Monday morning, with Wood stating that Manson “started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years. I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission. I am done living in fear of retaliation, slander or blackmail. I am here to expose this dangerous man and call out the many industries that have enabled him, before he ruins any more lives. I stand with the many victims who will no longer be silent.”
The other three women, Sarah McNeilyAshley Morgan and a person just going by Gabriella, posted their own experiences with Manson after Wood’s post.
In a post on Instagram yesterday, Manson wrote, “Obviously, my art and my life have long been magnets for controversy, but these recent claims about me are horrible distortions of reality. My intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual with like-mind partners. Regardless of how – and why – others are now choosing to misrepresent the past, that is the truth.”

Prince Harry has scored a victory against the media.
He was awarded an apology and “substantial” damages from the Mail on Sunday and MailOnline for accusing him of ghosting the British armed forces after stepping away from the Royal Family.
Harry sued the publisher, Associated Newspapers, over two recent articles that claimed that he had “not been in touch” with the Royal Marines and that they wanted to strip him of his Captain General title.
At a remote hearing at London’s High Court on Monday, his lawyer, Jenny Afia, called the allegations “false” and said that “the baseless, false and defamatory stories published in the Mail on Sunday and on the website MailOnline constituted not only a personal attack upon the Duke’s character but also wrongly brought into question his service to this country.”
The publisher agreed to pay substantial damages, she said, although the amount was not disclosed. Harry will donate the money to the Invictus Games Foundation.

Their petition reads: ” A Sunday spent prepping, cooking, grilling, yelling, cheering, eating, drinking, texting AND then the boss expects you to show up to work on Monday? Oof, that makes us tired just typing it out. It doesn’t seem right, even if you’re working remotely, and we’ve got a mighty swell idea to give football fans a day to chill after the big game. Tony Bennett‘s family has revealed that the 94-year-old singer is living with Alzheimer’s disease.
In an article published in AARP The MagazineBennett’s wife Susan says he was diagnosed back in 2016 after he started to show signs of decline. She says although his condition has progressed, he’s “been spared the disorientation that can prompt patients to wander from home, as well as the episodes of terror, rage or depression.”
One of the reasons that Tony Bennett‘s family went public with his Alzheimer’s diagnosis is that he and Lady Gaga have another duets album coming out this year.
Bennett’s family told AARP Magazine that they realized people would ask why Bennett wasn’t doing interviews to promote the project, so they decided to get the word out before the album.
Bennett’s wife Susan Benedetto tells CBS This Morning that the singer still remembers Gaga and says that “she’s hard to forget.”
Gaga and Bennett’s first duets album, 2014’s Cheek to Cheek, won the Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album and sold over 750,000 copies.

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani might have already snagged a singer for their wedding.
