Eight-Year-Old Girl Donates Money to Local Sculptor

Sharon Kulesa is a sculptor in the town of Stowmarket, England, who’s known for making life-sized sculptures — such as music superstar Ed Sheeran — that she displays in public spaces.

Earlier this month, Sharon answered a knock at her door. It was an eight-year-old neighbor named Amelie who explained she was so inspired by Sharon’s art that she decided to donate $30 in cash she received for her birthday to help Sharon continue making fun statues.

“I was absolutely gobsmacked,” Sharon said. “I almost started to cry … I gave her this big hug.”

When Amelie was asked later about the special gift, she explained, “I gave Sharon the money because I was really inspired by her sculptures. I thought it would take a lot of effort and money to create them, so I wanted to help so she could do more.”

Amelie’s mother, Sarah, is proud of her daughter’s generosity — but also recognizes that giving is just part of Sarah’s life. In previous years, Amelie has donated to different charities around the world. “She’s not doing it for the credit. She’s not doing it to be recognized,” Sarah said. “She does it just because it’s the right thing to do.”
