Highway work near Covert to start next week
The Michigan Department of Transportation says a $3.6 million road project is set to start on I-196 near Covert in Van Buren County next week.
MDOT says starting on Monday, April 20, crews will resurface about seven miles of the southbound lanes, stretching from just south of the Berrien/Van Buren county line to 32nd Avenue. The work will include milling and resurfacing the road, adding shoulder corrugations and updating pavement markings.
The project is expected to run through May 22, and drivers are advised to expect single-lane closures during construction.
MDOT estimates the investment will support approximately 30 jobs across Berrien and Van Buren counties.
