February Quiet, Then a Village Full of Footsteps
A calm look at what’s coming up around Leelanau, Old Mission, and the Lake Michigan shore, February 2026.
The furnace kicks on and you can hear it—low and steady—beneath the clink of a mug set down on a table. Outside the window, the light has that February flatness to it: gray-blue over the bay, a skim of wind moving snow dust along the edge of the road. Boots sit drying by the door, laces slack, and the wet-salt grit leaves a faint crust on the mat. Somebody pauses at a bulletin board in the hallway, fingertip tracing a flyer corner before folding a program in half and tucking it into a coat pocket.
As this coming week opens up here on the Coast (the 7–14 days ahead from now, in February 2026), a lot of the local motion is tucked indoors—library rooms, galleries, tasting rooms—where you can feel the warmth in your cheeks when you step in. Over in Glen Arbor, the Glen Arbor Arts Center keeps its winter rhythm going with the ongoing exhibits INteriors and Small Accomplishments by Harvey Gordon, and there’s a Gallery Walk + Talk on Saturday, February 14 at the Glen Arbor Arts Center.
That same Saturday, February 14, Suttons Bay turns into one long loop of small errands and friendly run-ins for Yeti Fest across the village—Yeti Fun at the Suttons Bay Library, a free movie at The Bay Theatre, scavenger hunts, a strolling chili cook-off, and the kind of winter hanging-around that has people standing shoulder-to-shoulder in knit caps, breath visible when the door swings open. It’s weather-conditional in that way February always is, but the plan is spread out and walkable from spot to spot, with Yeti Central set at the VI Grill outdoor patio.
Valentine’s weekend also brings a cheese-forward run of gatherings around the wider Traverse City area—The Cheesiest Valentine’s Ever runs Thursday, February 12 through Sunday, February 15, with multiple stops that ripple out toward Leelanau. A few that land close to home on the peninsula side: French Valley and Leelanau Cheese – Special Tasting and Talk at French Valley Vineyard in Cedar on Thursday, February 12; Curated Wine and Cheese Pairing – Bel Lago at Bel Lago Winery on Friday, February 13; Sip. Savor. Melt. A Love Story of Wine & Cheese at Bonobo Winery on Saturday, February 14; Love at first bite: A Valentine’s Wine & Cheese Dinner at Dune Bird Winery on Saturday, February 14; and Savoring Sunday: Vines and Rinds at Chateau Chantal on Sunday, February 15. (A handful of the workshops and brunches are listed as sold out on the ticket page, but they’re still part of the weekend’s shape and timing.)
And if you’re looking a little farther down the road as February keeps rolling: Snow on the Vines is set for February 20–22 through the Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail, and Shenandoah is scheduled for Saturday, February 28 at the Leelanau Sands Casino Showroom in Peshawbestown—two dates to keep in the back of your mind while the days stay short and the sky keeps its winter tint.
