June Light, Fresh Posters, and a Busy Shoreline

General Events

A calm look at what’s coming around Leelanau and nearby towns in June 2026, from lighthouse grounds to small stages.

June in Leelanau has that long, clean light that makes every painted porch rail and storefront window look freshly washed. You can hear it in the little sounds, too—the screen door’s soft slap, the gulls working the harbor air, the faint clink of a flagpole rope when a breeze comes off Lake Michigan. Out by the marinas the water’s still got that early-season steel-blue edge, and in town you’ll see the first hand-lettered signs taped up inside glass.

In the next week or two—right here in June 2026—folks are already pointing at flyers and talking across counters about what’s landing on the calendar. Up at the tip of the peninsula in Leelanau State Park, Rock the Light: Pirate Dash 5K Run/Walk & Captain Woolsey 10-Miler is set for Saturday, June 6, with the start and finish at the Grand Traverse Lighthouse Gift Shop area. And then the following weekend, the lighthouse grounds get busy again with Community Day with GT Lighthouse at the Grand Traverse Lighthouse Museum in Northport on Saturday, June 13—the kind of day where you can picture strollers on the path, a vendor tent line, and that white tower standing straight against the sky.

Down in Leland, 2026 Leland Wine & Food Festival is also on Saturday, June 13 at the Leland Township Harbor. That’s a harbor-day scene—boat masts, dock lines, sun on the water, and people drifting past the storefronts with folded programs in hand. In the same stretch of days, the Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail runs its Spring Into Summer stretch through June 7, the kind of thing you hear mentioned when someone’s leaning on a tasting-room counter, watching traffic on M-22 roll by.

If your week leans more toward music under string lights, there’s a handful of dates to keep straight. In Suttons Bay, Broom Closet Boys – Benefit Show is slated for June 10 at Hop Lot Brewing, and Uncle Z follows on June 13 at Hop Lot Brewing—out in the beer garden where you can hear the crowd settle in between songs. Over in Traverse City, Alluvion Presents: Dan Rickabus Album Release wsg Hannah Laine hits June 3 at The Alluvion, and Alluvion Presents: Zuz & DJ Ras Marco – Thursday Night Summer Hang shows up on June 18, with Alluvion Presents: Claudia Schmidt on June 19—all in that upstairs-room, close-listening feel where you can catch the soft scrape of a chair on the floor between sets.

And for the library crowd—quiet voices, a stack of returns, and somebody pausing to check a poster near the door—the Suttons Bay Bingham District Library has a few on the board: BOOKENDs Book Discussion Group on Thursday, June 11; Outdoor Story Time Kickoff! on Tuesday, June 16 outside the library overlooking the beach; and a Michigan Notable Author Talk with Susan Hollister Wasselman on June 18, also at the library. It’s that early-summer rhythm—kids’ voices outside, pages turning inside, and the lake just beyond the windows keeping its own steady time.
