A calm look at what’s coming up around Leelanau and Old Mission in July 2026—music, art, library gatherings, and a few civic meetings you’ll hear about in passing.
The last week of July in Northern Michigan has that particular kind of light—late, steady, and a little dusty—like it’s been warmed on a windowsill. Screen doors snap shut down the block. You can hear a flag line tapping a porch post, and somewhere a bicycle freewheel ticks as it coasts past. On the way in, somebody pauses at a sun-faded poster by the door, runs a finger along the edge like they’re smoothing it flat, then folds a program in half and tucks it into a back pocket.
Down in Leland, the Old Art Building is in the middle of Art Leelanau 2026 Exhibition & Fundraiser, with the show open daily through Sunday, August 2. The opening-night reception lands Friday, July 24 at the Old Art Building in Leland, and by Saturday, July 25, you’ll hear the same name again out on the street as folks drift between Fishtown and the front lawn. Also on Saturday, July 25, Northport’s Music in the Park brings Igor and the Red Elvises to the Kent Holton Pavilion at Northport Marina Park—one of those evenings where you can see the pavilion roofline against the sky while the bay turns darker by the minute.
If you’re pointing the car south and east a bit, Interlochen Center for the Arts has Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit on Saturday, July 25. And early Sunday, July 26, Traverse City is up and moving for the Great Lakes Cancer Foundation 5k, with that familiar morning mix of pinned bibs, paper cups, and shoes tapping on pavement. Later Sunday, July 26, there’s also Kickboxing Fundamentals at Significant Strikes Boxing Jiu-Jitsu & MMA in Traverse City—an indoor kind of July plan when the air outside feels thick and loud.
On the Old Mission side, keep an ear out for live sets at Old Mission Distilling—Jimmy Olson is on the books again Saturday, July 25 at the distillery on the peninsula. And over in Suttons Bay, the public side of summer shows up not just in flip-flops but in agendas: the Village Council meets Monday, July 20 at the council room (420 Front Street), and another village meeting is posted for Wednesday, July 22. It’s the kind of week where you notice who’s lingering under the awning outside the meeting room before the doors open, listening for the first shuffle of chairs.
Library calendars stay busy in late July, too. Traverse Area District Library in Traverse City has multiple programs rolling through the week, and Peninsula Community Library on Old Mission posts summer events on Island View Road that fit nicely between beach weather and storm weather. Over in Leland, Leland Township Library’s program schedule keeps moving along—one more reason you’ll see cars in the lot even when the rest of town feels like it’s emptied toward the water.
