Yes, you may consider this a self plug BUT… I promise you, it’s all from the heart.

As I mentioned in my short and sweet bio blog yesterday, one of my passions is working with non-profits. I’ve sat on committee’s, board of directors, fund-raised, and am the current Chair for 100 Women Strong… which leads me to today’s post.

The 5th Annual Leaders of Distinction Luncheon – Thursday October 27th, at Shadowland on Silver Beach, 12noon – 1:30pm. Tickets are $25 each, or at table of 8 for $180. They can be purchased by clicking here: 100womenstrongberrien.com/events

I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t equal parts excited and saddened thinking ahead to this event. I’m excited because over the last 5 years, we have heard keynote speeches from and recognized women in our community who are making a difference. These are all women who are impacting the community, in POSITIVE ways! Not just to better their career or business, but everyone here, in our little slice of heaven.

Then the sadness hits. Maybe it’s just the month of October, or the pressure I’m putting on myself to do something she’d be proud of. Maybe it’s just the fact that I know the original plan was to honor her while she was still among us.

I know the waves of emotions are still all over the place for many people when they think about our 2016 Leader of Distinction, the late Denise Bohn. When you really think about it, about her, everything she did, stood for, fought for… she was a leader. Our goal is not to continue to drag out the emotions, but to honor her, and to help heal. Which makes me happy, and excited for this event again!

Alright, maybe it’s also getting to hear a keynote from someone I’ve looked up to for years, Deb O’Connor from Whirlpool. Deb brings an amazing insight into the corporate world and partnerships with community organizations, like 100 Women Strong.

Did I mention we also have a delicious lunch planned for you? Oh, and there are gluten free/vegetarian options available!

If you’re still sitting there reading this thinking “Uh… 100 Who???”, let me give you a quick intro to who we are:

100 Women Strong is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that serves women who are not eligible for other community resources. These women are either working or attending school and can receive a one-time grant up to $500 to pay for emergency car repairs, health, utility or other unexpected bills. The intent is to help women stay self-sufficient and prevent them from quitting work or school because no emergency funds were available to them. To learn more visit 100womenstrongberrien.com.

WOW! Sounds like a great organization, right! It is! And no, I’m not just saying that because the other members might read this, I truly believe it! Yes, tickets are still available for our Luncheon. YES, we are always looking for volunteers, and additional supporters. Double YES, I’m happy to answer any questions about the Luncheon, or our organization that you might have: Sarah@983thecoast.com
