The conclusion to last night’s Miss Universe pageant was awkward, to say the least.
The host, Steve Harvey, misread the results. Rather than handing the tiara to Miss Philippines, he announced that the next Miss Universe hailed from Colombia.
The crowd went wild as she was crowned, given the Miss Universe sash and handed a massive bouquet of flowers.
Moments later, Steve Harvey returned to the stage to take responsibility for a “horrible mistake.” He revealed the final card to the TV cameras. Both names of the finalists were printed, but Miss Colombia was listed as first runner-up.
Miss Philippines gave a look of disbelief. A few in the crowd could even be heard chanting “fraud.”
Suddenly, Miss Colombia’s tears of joy turned to tears of shame as the Miss Universe sash and tiara were stripped from her.
