1983 – With their song “Every Breath You Take” The Police hit off an eight week run at No.1 on the U.S singles chart, on this day in 1983.

1995 – On July 9th 1995, The Grateful Dead give their final performance at Soldier Field in Chicago, with front man Jerry Garcia. He went on to die only a month later of a heart attack.

2001 – In July of 2001, The Backstreet Boys announced a break in their Black and Blue tour, so that member A.J McLean could enter rehab for his struggles with depression and alcoholism. Fortunately, they were able to reunite not long after.
