Back in 2017, Alex Burkemper graduated from college and moved in with his older brother, Todd, in hopes of paying off student loans and saving up some money.
So, for the past three years, Todd has been collecting rent money from his brother to cover expenses. But instead of spending that money, Todd was saving that money, putting it in a separate account for Alex — without Alex knowing what was going on.
Alex finally found a house of his own to purchase and was ready to move away from Todd. And that’s when Todd shared the big surprise …
There was a big bank account in Alex’s name, with a bunch of cash that could be used for a down payment.
Todd arranged for their parents to be there for the big reveal and mom recorded video of the awesome moment. (Good News Network)

L.A.-based artist Michael Gittes wanted to honor the front-line workers who have been battling coronavirus.
So, he picked a hospital that was particularly hard hit during the peak of the crisis, Interfaith Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, and got to work creating a painting for each and every employee.
Well, he finished and was able to deliver the paintings last week.
A truckload of 1,800 paintings, each representing a flower, rolled up and were passed out to the workers.
It was the perfect gift. These people have been working tirelessly for months. And, Michael was able to give them something unexpected that showed appreciation for all that they’re doing — and continue to do. (WABC-TV)

Months ago, Laura Fisher of La Quinta, California, learned that her kidneys were failing — so she joined the wait list for a donor. Her daughter, Sarah, stepped forward and was a match.
But even at that point, COVID-19 put surgeries like this on hold.
Recently, they were able to schedule the transplant — and it will happen next week.
Of course, it will be different than normal, because no visitors will be allowed. Laura’s other daughter found a workaround, knitting them plush “cuddle hedgehogs,” so they can take a piece of home with them inside the hospital.
Both mother and daughter are happy that doctors and nurses will be able to take care of this life-saving surgery, even during these complicated times.
And, they feel lucky that they have each other for love and support along the way. (KESQ-TV)

When all this coronavirus stuff started, the catcher for the Colorado Rockies — Tony Wolters — realized that getting haircuts would be a challenge. So, he committed to growing his hair out, so he could donate that hair to charity.
It didn’t take that long. In just a few months, Tony grew his hair out to seven inches — and was able to get it cut and give it to Maggie’s Wigs 4 Kids of Michigan.
So while many people were complaining about not being able to get a haircut, Tony decided to make the most of it, which will result in a big smile on the face of a child in Michigan.

Many assisted-living facilities banned visitors rather than take the risk of coronavirus infecting the residents.
Mary Daniel of Jacksonville, Florida could not see her husband suffering with early-onset Alzheimer’s. Before the shutdown, she visited daily and tucked her husband into bed.
For his well-being and her own sanity, Mary Daniel applied at his facility to be a part-time dishwasher.
Twice a week, after cleaning the kitchen and scrubbing dishes, Mary spends quality time with her husband. She said, (quote) “I was willing to do whatever it took to fulfill my promise. I am going to be there for him every step of the way.” (The Washington Post)

RESTAURANT OWNERS PAY IT FORWARD WITH FREE PIZZAS
Jack Srebnik and Ellen Spencer have owned a pizzeria called The Slice in Rancho Mirage, California, since 2008. Of course, this year has been unusual — but they’re doing their best to serve others with a new program they’re calling Pay It Forward pizza days. Every Monday, Jack and Ellen donate 20 pizzas to nurses at a nearby hospital — and each Thursday, they deliver 80 free burritos. And, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, they distribute 50 to 70 pizzas to local senior citizens. They’ve been able to keep their business rolling, even with all the social distancing rules and special cleaning rules. But instead of just worrying about themselves and their business, Jack and Ellen are doing their best to share their success with others by giving away free food whenever they can.
