Ellen DeGeneres’ ex-girlfriend Anne Heche has addressed the recent toxic workplace allegations against the talk-show host. She told Mr. Warburton magazine, “I haven’t spoken to Ellen in years. I’d listen to the people who have.” Anne also described their nearly four-year relationship as “a beautiful part” of her life. (Page Six) And speaking of Ellen’s toxic workplace accusations, three senior producers — Ed Glavin, Kevin Leman and Jonathan Norman — have been fired from The Ellen DeGeneres Show following allegations of a toxic workplace. (Variety)

Rose McGowan has accused director Alexander Payne of sexual misconduct.
The actress — who helped kick off the MeToo movement after accusing Harvey Weinstein — tweeted on Monday about the alleged encounter, which she says took place when she was 15. “Alexander Payne. You sat me down & played a soft-core porn movie you directed for Showtime under a different name. I still remember your apartment in Silverlake. You are very well-endowed. You left me on a street corner afterwards. I was 15.”
In another tweet, she posted a photo of herself at 15 and wrote, “I just want an acknowledgement and an apology. I do not want to destroy.”
Payne is a two-time Oscar winner for The Descendants and Sideways, and ex-husband of Grey’s Anatomy star Sandra Oh.

Will Smith and Kevin Hart are teaming up for a remake of Planes, Trains & Automobiles.
The original, written and directed by John Hughes, starred Steve Martin and John Candy as an odd couple forced to become traveling partners as they try to get home for Thanksgiving.
The remake will be written by Aeysha Carr, whose credits include Brooklyn 99 and the upcoming Hulu series Woke.

There’s no word yet on when production will begin on the fifth season of This Is Us, but when it does, fans can expect the coronavirus pandemic to play a role.
The show’s creator, Dan Fogelman, dropped a few new details in a tweet on Sunday letting fans know that the show will definitely mirror the real-life events of the past several months, but added that it won’t drastically change the storyline or the ending. He added that there’s no plan yet for when production will resume and no word on when the new episodes will air.

Highly trending last night and this morning on Twitter is Michelle Obama: The former first lady gave an impassioned speech on the first night of the Democratic National Convention. The convention isn’t actually a convention this year at all, as all of the speakers taped their speeches individually safe at home.

Also trending is Google Meet. The videoconferencing service has been under fire for being slow and sometimes dropping out completely for some users during meetings, conferences or video learning. Google says they will be beefing up the service and capacity of the popular service.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, one of the largest schools to attempt to bring students on campus for in-person learning, said Monday that it will shift to all-remote classes for undergraduates after testing has shown the spread of COVID-19 on campus.
The decision comes just a week after classes started for 30,000 students at the university, as 177 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed out of the hundreds of students tested. Another 349 will be quarantined both on and off campus after they were possibly exposed to the virus.
The order for remote-teaching for undergrads will go into effect today and the school will allows students to vacate campus dorms without economic penalties. (The Washington Post)

We know a little about what Katy Perry‘s new Smile album sounds like — and she’s just clued us in about what it smells like.
A fan texted Katy during her #SmileSundays livestream and asked her to describe the scent of the music, and the star didn’t hesitate. She quickly ad-libbed, “It would smell maybe like fresh laundry, like the beginning of the day. Fresh laundry. Like newness, like clearness, like what you smell when you go outside and you’re on your way to school and it’s just clean for a second, until all hell breaks loose.”
To prove that, Katy also previewed another Smile track titled “Tucked.” Smile‘s set to drop on August 28th.

The Blast claims Madonna recently celebrated her 62nd birthday in Jamaica with her 26 year-old boy toy Allahmalik Williams. The couple reportedly spent the night smoking marijuana as a band played music on a beach.

Lately it seems everyone hates Ellen DeGeneres, but the embattled talk-show host has at least one friend left.
Kevin Hart had lunch with Ellen on Saturday after he defended the comedian, who’s been accused of treating guests badly and creating a toxic workplace at her show.
According to Us Weekly, the two dined at the Rosewood Miramar Beach in Montecito, California, and were “both dressed in tropical print button-down shirts and khaki shorts as they chatted while sipping wine.”
Earlier this month on Instagram, Kevin wrote, “It’s crazy to see my friend go thru what she’s going thru publicly. I have known Ellen for years and I can honestly say that she’s one of the dopest people on the [bleeping] planet.”
Ellen also supported Kevin in 2019 when he came under fire for tweets deemed homophobic as he prepared to host the Oscars that year.

Tiger King Joe Exotic is in prison, but he still wants to help find rival Carole Baskin‘s missing husband.
A new investigation has been launched to find out what happened to Don Lewis following the viral hit Tiger King. Don disappeared in 1997 and is believed dead.
According to TMZ, Don’s three daughter, who are suing Carole, have welcomed Joe’s assistance. They say that the “plan is for him to speak to their lawyer to figure out what, if any, useful info he has for the investigation.”
Joe claimed in Tiger King that Carole had a hand in getting rid of her husband.
His family recently announced a $100,000 reward for information about Don.

Simon Cowell is back home one week after breaking his back.
A friend tells People magazine that the America’s Got Talent judge  is “very happy to be back home with his family in the fresh sea air” of Malibu, California.
Simon underwent a “five-hour surgery” last weekend after falling off his new electric bike. But the source says he’s making great progress. “He’s been able to walk quite a lot and quicker than the experts had expected him to do after this type of major surgery, which is a great sign for the healing coming along well.”
No word, though, when Simon will return to America’s Got Talent.

You’d think that these days – where no one is going, well, anywhere — FOMO, or Fear of Missing Out, wouldn’t be a thing. But according to experts, FOMO hasn’t gone away – it’s just changed. Instead of looking at other’s people’s vacation pics from exotic locations and feeling terrible about yourself, now people are looking at pics of people doing amazing things during their time at home – while they’re just sitting on the couch. “It’s shape-shifted,” says Jennifer Wolkin, a New York-based neuropsychologist, “It might not be looking at pictures of someone’s vacation or their parasailing trip or swimming with dolphins. It now becomes ‘They’re making sourdough starters,’ and ‘They’re going for a hike in these woods with their family, and I’m just on the couch and doing nothing and surviving and trying to find my breath.'” (USA Today)

Kelly came back with a retort that quickly racked up the likes — “Shaming a woman who has a great work ethic, is a great mom, and who steps up and fills in when a friends asks for a favor because that’s actually what “good old country girls” do… This can’t be who you are deep down. Dwayne Johnson did it again. He’s been named the highest-paid actor in Hollywood for the second year in a row.
According to Forbes, The Rock earned  $87.5 million, taking home $23.5 million for his part in the upcoming Netflix original film Red Notice.
He’s followed by Ryan Reynolds ($71.5 million), Mark Wahlberg ($58 million), Ben Affleck ($55 million) and Vin Diesel ($54 million).
Others on the list include Adam Sandler ($41 million), Lin-Manuel Miranda ($45.5 million) and Will Smith ($44.5 million).
Six of the top 10 actors made much of their money from Netflix.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have “secretly” bought a home in Santa Barbara. Page Six says the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been living in the upscale California community, which is also home to Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres, for the past six weeks.

The most-talked-about trending news of yesterday involved two different spectrums of topics: Politics, and Football. In politics, Joe Biden chose Kamala Harris as his Vice Presidential running-mate. And in Football, the Big 10 and Pac-10 conferences cancelled their football seasons due to concerns over the coronavirus. Locally, Lake Michigan Catholic was the first local school to cancel their Football season.

Have you ever been the subject of a backhanded compliment? Or perhaps gave one and didn’t realize it until later? Al Roker was recently featured on The Kelly Clarkson Show to talk about his new book, You Look So Much Better in Person. But it’s not just a funny book title – it’s a backhanded compliment both he and Kelly get from fans regularly. During the interview Kelly said, “I love the title. Anybody that knows me that sees your book, buys your book, reads your book, is going to laugh because literally the thing said most to me in my life, in my career … is, ‘You look so much better in person.’ I honestly thought it was just me.” (Country Living)

I know it’s mid-August, but since the year has been so bad for most brands and retailers, they’re already preparing for and talking about Christmas. Don’t expect to see fancy packaging this year either. Mondelez, the company behind Sour Patch Kids and Swedish Fish will focus on family-size packs of their candies because they predict parents will arrange small get-togethers instead of typical Halloween celebrations. Even Hershey announced limited Halloween packaging, choosing to save money and keep their normal packaging due to the uncertainty of the season. (Eater)

This week, Taylor Swift joined rare company. Only 11 music acts have at least six albums top the Billboard charts multiple weeks. Swift has released eight albums. Folklore became the sixth to be number-one for a second week.
Barbra Streisand is the only woman besides Taylor Swift to have at least six albums top the Billboard charts more than once. More recently, Jay Z and Eminem have reached the milestone.
The other acts are from another era entirely: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley, Elton John, Led Zeppelin, Bruce Springsteen and Garth Brooks.
This feat requires career longevity and the increasingly difficult achievement of more than one week topping the charts. For example, country singer Kenny Chesney has only one of his nine chart-toppers to remain there multiple weeks. The hip-hop artist Future has seven number-one album but none of them stayed on top for two weeks. (Billboard)

Ed Sheeran is actively preparing for fatherhood. A child with wife Cherry Seaborn is reportedly due in a matter of weeks.
They kept the pregnancy secret during quarantine. Tiger King Joe Exotic thinks he knows who killed Carole Baskin‘s husband, but the truth is still a mystery. Now the family of Don Lewis is putting up billboards and offering a $100,000 reward for information about the businessman’s disappearance in 1997.
