In Covid-19 news, according to a recent Stanford University study, the chances of achieving herd immunity to stabilize the spread of coronavirus is slim — considering less than 10 percent of Americans were found, in July, to have antibodies that fight against it. So, at this point, a vaccine is likely going to be the only solution.

An unsurprising new study has found that people have been drinking a lot more – and a lot more frequently — since the start of COVID-19. According to a survey by the RAND Corp., heavy drinking among women — four or more drinks within a couple of hours — has increased by a whopping 41%. And, overall, adults over the age of 30 have increased the frequency of their drinking by 14% compared to the same time last year. (CBS Local Los Angeles)

Move over, Pumpkin Spice Latte, because Candy Corn Latte is here. Monica Preston of The Espresso Explorer blog has a simple recipe for a Candy Corn Latte that you might want to add to your home brewing menu. And, yes, it involves using real candy corns. (Pop Sugar)

An American man working in Thailand could face prison time … for a bad Trip Advisor review. In July, Wesley Barnes stayed at the Sea View Resort on Koh Chang Island and left a one-star review on Trip Advisor, noting, among other things, an “unfriendly staff” and “extremely rude and impolite” restaurant manager. He’s now facing two years in prison because the resort owner filed a defamation complaint against him — accusing him of causing “damage to the reputation of the hotel” and claiming Barnes had left similar reviews on a number of platforms. Wesley has been released on bail. (Insider)
Did you give your dog a really bad coronavirus haircut earlier this year? A new book called Scruffy, by author Shelley Ross, is full of before and after pics of dogs who got some interesting cuts by their owners during quarantine. Not only are the pics adorable – but all proceeds from the book will go to nonprofit The Cure Alliance, for COVID-19 research. (People)

Kelly Clarkson‘s impending divorce just took another ugly turn — because her father-in-law says she owes him over a million bucks in unpaid management fees.
Narvel Blackstock, whose son Brandon married Kel back in 2013, has managed her career for over a decade. In the suit, filed this week, his firm says she’s fallen behind on payments for her work on her talk show and The Voice. The suit states that Clarkson has paid the firm $1.9 million this year, but owes another $1.4 million.
According to Variety, the two sides never had a written deal in place, just a verbal agreement for Kelly to pay 15 percent of her earnings, which she’d done since 2003.

Mariah Carey remains bitter about how she was treated by her producer and first husband Tommy Mottola.
While calling the music mogul “controlling and jealous” in the just-published The Meaning of Mariah Carey, Mimi dubs the suburban New York home they shared as “Sing Sing” (after the nearby penitentiary). She says the place was “fully staffed with armed guards,” whose job wasn’t to protect but monitor her.
In particular, she recalls a 1996 incident where, after a recording session in her home studio with producer rapper DaBrat, they drove off to a nearby Burger King. Mimi claims that Mottola went “berserk” and called out an armed search party.
Carey and Mottola separated a year later. In his 2013 memoir, he admitted being “obsessive” but alleges she described their marriage in “harsh” and “untrue” terms. She does acknowledge that he made her a star. (BBC)

Saturday Night Live kicks off its 46th season this weekend with a live audience — but if you want to go you’ll have to jump through a few hoops.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Tickets to the show’s dress rehearsal and live show come with a long-list of health stipulations.” This includes an on-site COVID test and temperature checks.
Despite the requirements, the October 3rd premiere is sold out and the ratings on TV are likely to be huge, considering the “SNL At Home” episodes that aired back in March and April were a smash with viewers.

Congratulations to Meghan McCain. On Monday night, The View co-host delivered a baby girl. Her name is Liberty Sage McCain Domenech.
Meghan’s rep said both are “happy and healthy.” She announced on her Instagram Story “It’s a girl.”
Liberty arrived one week early. Meghan joked at Instagram only 10 days ago, (quote) “Two and a half weeks until my due date. Trying to keep myself looking as stylish as humanly possible while feeling like Shamu.” (People)

If you’ve got some extra cash lying around, Pierce Brosnan is selling his Malibu compound for a whopping $100 million. The oceanfront residence sits on an acre with two homes that combine for five bedrooms and 14 bathrooms, according to the L.A. Times.

Chrissy Teigen is in the hospital.
She’s suffered some bleeding issues during her third pregnancy, but assures fans she’ll be OK. She says, “In the simplest of terms, my placenta is really, really weak”
She adds that she’s about halfway to term and that aside from the bleeding, she actually feels “really good.” (USA Today)

Someone Lewis Capaldi loved is officially out of his life.
The sad song specialist has reportedly split from girlfriend Catherine Halliday after seven months — which insiders blame on the U.K.’s strict COVID lockdown, which kept them apart for most of that time.
One of his pals tells Britain’s Sun, “Lewis has no hard feelings towards Catherine and they’re still amicable, but they decided it was best to call it a day. He’s at the beginning of his career, with a lot of opportunity at his fingertips, so it’s not the right time to settle down. He wishes Catherine all the best and has fond memories of their dates together.”
Lewis isn’t taking the split all that hard, it seems. Britain’s Sun magazine says he’s already swiping left and right on the high-end dating app Raya.

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel have welcomed their second child, his band mate Lance Bass confirms.
While the couple hasn’t made an announcement, Lance tells Entertainment Tonight, “We have talked several times and we knew before anyone else did. It’s been a fun celebration and they’re very, very happy!”
Lance says the talk in the ‘NSYNC group chat has been all about the newborn. “It’s all about baby! It’s all about the new one they just brought in. It’s all been conversations about a newborn.”
The singer said the little one’s “cute,” but he wouldn’t reveal the name. “That’s a good question, but there’s no way. He would kill me!”

Football legend Joe Montana and his wife were busy this weekend as they battled a woman who broke into their home and tried to kidnap their young grandchild.
TMZ reports that the intruder snatched the nine-year-old from a playpen. The football legend and his wife Jennifer confronted the woman, and tried asking the woman to give them back the child. Eventually, a “scuffle ensued” and Jennifer was able to pry the baby from the woman’s arms. The woman fled, but police officers who were nearby were able to grab the woman.
On Sunday, Joe tweeted, “Thank you to everyone who has reached out. Scary situation, but thankful that everybody is doing well. We appreciate respect for our privacy at this time.”

Dax Shepard reveals that he recently fell off the wagon after 16 years of sobriety.
On a new episode of his podcast Armchair Expert, the actor admitted he became addicted to painkillers and that for the last eight weeks he had been “on them all day,” after initially taking them for injuries.
Dax, who’s married to Kristen Bell, said he first began to use painkillers after getting into a motorcycle accident in 2012. Eight years later, he got into another accident, and he began buying painkillers to self-medicate.
This month, he said, he revealed his relapse to his wife and handed over his pills.
Dax said he’s been drug-free since September 21st. The couple are often visitors to the Southwest Michigan area where they reportedly have a home.

The Meaning of Mariah Carey, the R & B diva’s memoir, is coming out on Tuesday, and in a tweet promoting it on Sunday Carey divulged a little known chapter in her career.
She tweeted: “Fun fact. I did an alternative album while I was making Daydream. Just for laughs, but it got me through some dark days.” She included a photo of two of the book’s pages in which she talks about the album, which was credited to a group called Chick.
A rep for Carey tells Pitchfork that Mariah wrote, produced, or provided background vocals for the songs, directed one of their music videos and acted as art director for the package. While Daydream became the best-selling album of her long and hugely successful career, Chick’s Someone’s Ugly Daughter is the opposite. In fact, the album is now so rare that copies of it go for $900 on Amazon.
In the book excerpt, she describes how at night after recording Daydream she would bring her “little alt-rock” songs to the band and “hum a silly guitar riff” which the band would turn into songs that were “irreverent, raw and urgent.”
She goes on to explain that she fully committed to her character and was “playing with the style of the breezy-grunge, punk-light white singers who were popular at the time. You know, the ones who seemed to be so carefree with their feelings and their image.” She wanted, she says, “to break free, let loose and express my misery — but…also…to laugh.” She also gives a shout out to her friend Clarissa [Dane], who performs the lead vocals with her “as a hidden layer.”

According to WalletHub’s latest ranking of the Happiest States in America – which measured a bunch of factors in categories like “emotional and physical well-being,” “work environment,” and “community and environment” – Hawaii is the happiest state in the country, which is probably no surprise. West Virginia was ranked the least happy state. Michigan didn’t make either list of the happiest or least happy states, in case you were wondering.

This is interesting … Researchers in the U.S. and Denmark have found that fans of horror flicks, alien invasion movies and post-apocalyptic movies are coping better with the pandemic and experience less anxiety regarding COVID-19. (Study Finds)

Have you tried a weighted blanket? If you have a hard time sleeping, it might be worth a try. Researchers in Sweden found that weighted blankets not only led to better sleep for study participants, but they also had more energy during the day and had reduced levels of depression and stress. Researchers think the reason weighted blankets are so effective is because the pressure acts almost like a massage on your muscles and joints. (Best Life)

We’re heading into another weekend of NFL football and if you’ve ever wondered about the amount of money teams will lose because fans aren’t in the stands, just listen to this. For example, the Dallas Cowboys will lose $621 million in revenue this year, the New England Patriots will lose $315 million and the New York Giants will lose $262 million. For sure. Nobody’s crying in their beer for billionaire owners. But, you can almost surely bet that beer and hot dog prices will go up AGAIN when fans return to the stands in the future…

Have you been making the best of the pandemic at your workplace? Do things seem a bit slow, perhaps even more comfortable? If so, it might not compare to this: Three employees with New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority have been suspended without pay after officials discovered a secret, underground storage room in Grand Central Terminal that they had turned into their own man cave.
The MTA Inspector General says officials weren’t even aware there was a small room under Track 114 and were shocked to find their cozy little nook which included a fridge, a futon, exercise equipment, a microwave, and a flat-screen TV. The workers have been suspended pending further disciplinary actions. (WNBC-TV)

The Mariah Carey autobiography will be this fall’s must-read book.
The Meaning of Mariah Carey arrives next week and includes several stories you have never heard before. For example, Mariah writes how she came this-close to being sex trafficked at age 12 by her sister.
During a conversation with Oprah Winfrey, she expressed shock at the sister’s cruelty. Oprah read aloud the passage from Mariah’s memoirs. (quote) “When I was 12 years old, my sister drugged me with Valium, offered me a pinky nail full of cocaine, inflicted me with third degree burns and tried to sell me out to a pimp.” (Entertainment Tonight)
Mariah said she felt like an outsider from her own family. She hardly knows her siblings. She speculated that her sister “had already been damaged” by the time she was born. In fact, last month, Allison Carey accused their mother of enabling “strangers to abuse [Allison] when she was just 10 and made her watch [children being compromised] and sacrifices during satanic rituals.” (New York Post)
Mariah became an international superstar despite the childhood trauma. Her sister turned tricks to pay for a drug addiction even after she became infected with HIV.

NBC says Demi Lovato and Max Ehrich have ended their engagement after only two months. The two began dating earlier this year.

Another holiday tradition bites the dust. The Times Square New Year’s Eve ball drop will go virtual this year.
Organizers say it will be a “virtually enhanced celebration,” but added that there would be a few small, scaled-back live events.
Tim Tompkins, president of the Times Square Alliance, says, “One thing that will never change is the ticking of time and the arrival of a New Year at midnight on December 31st. But this year there will be significantly new and enhanced virtual, visual and digital offerings to complement whatever limited live entertainment or experiences — still in development — will take place in Times Square.”
CBS News says that “barricades will be set up around Times Square to keep people out, like every other New Year’s Eve, but they won’t be letting anyone in.”
Even the dropping of confetti might get nixed.

The cast of the hit 90s movie Father of the Bride will reunite for a “very special event” to benefit World Central Kitchen on Friday. Steve Martin, Diane Keaton and Martin Short will come together at 6 p.m. EST on Netflix’s YouTube and Facebook pages. (NY Post)

Be honest … Are you addicted to online shopping, especially Amazon shopping? You’re not alone. A new survey found that 25% of respondents admitted that they are seriously addicted to online shopping. 82% of those surveyed said they like shopping online, because it’s easier to find what they want. And 53% said they get excited when their package arrives. In fact, the online shoppers surveyed said they look forward to their purchases arriving more than they do to their workday ending or video chatting with family and friends. And – no surprise — COVID has increased our online shopping habits. 52% said they’ve had more home deliveries in 2020 than in previous years. (SWNS)

Speaking of online shopping … Seems a lot of us have already started Christmas shopping. Why? We’re bored. A survey found that 50% of Americans have already started online shopping for the holidays, because they’re bored at home. 15% of those surveyed said they actually started their holiday shopping … in August. And no surprise – experts predict 48% of holiday shopping will be done online this year. (SWNS)

It appears that being financially well-off isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. A new study has found that having lots of money has some downsides – particularly loneliness and lack of real relationships. Researchers at the University of Buffalo and Harvard Business School say the stress of being successful and constantly striving for more can actually cut you off from the world. It’s not that making money is bad – but when someone ties their self-worth to their financial success, and puts that above all else, they can become isolated.
“Feeling that pressure to achieve financial goals means we’re putting ourselves to work at the cost of spending time with loved ones, and it’s that lack of time spent with people close to us that’s associated with feeling lonely and disconnected,” adds Deborah Ward from the University of Buffalo.

Ellen Degeneres‘s long-awaited apology fell flat with some of her staffers.
On Monday the comedian returned to her talk show and finally addressed the allegations of a toxic workplace behind the scenes. But current and former employees are criticizing the apology, claiming her monologue poked fun at their suffering.
Ellen opened by asking, “How was everybody’s summer? Good, yeah? Mine was great. Super terrific. Let me give you some advice out there if anybody’s thinking of changing their title or giving yourself a nickname, do not go with the ‘be kind’ lady. Don’t do it.”
One former employee tells Buzzfeed, “Not only did Ellen turn my trauma, turn our traumas, into a joke, she somehow managed to make this about her.”
Another former staffer says, “When she said, ‘Oh, my summer was great’ and that was supposed to be funny I thought, ‘It’s funny that you had a rough summer because everyone was calling out all of the allegations of your toxic work environment and now you’re the one suffering?'”
An ex-employee says, “When you’re talking about people who have accused her leadership of… sexual misconduct, I don’t think it’s appropriate to have jokes in the monologue.”
A current staff member claims that her apology was simply “tactical.” “She’s sharing it now because it’s for premiere week and it’s to get viewers back, and that just feels the opposite of what this message is about.”

A song parody set to Megan Thee Stallion‘s “Savage” includes the lyrics “Carole Baskin killed her husband, whacked him. Can’t convince me that it didn’t happen. Fed him to tigers, they snackin’.”
In the filing, Don’s former assistant says Carole should have spoken out against the jokes and that she should have put her foot down when a Dancing With the Stars judge said she “didn’t quite kill the paso double, it was kind of sedated.”
Don’s family also accuses Carole of going along with the joke in an interview with Good Morning America when she promised to “really kill it next week.”
