Music News – Tuesday, July 21

Katy Perry says that having “child-bearing hips” helped her keep he secret that she was having a child.
Katy Zoomed into Australia’s Kyle and Jackie O Show to talk music and motherhood. When asked if she’d field questions about pregnancy before her official reveal, she told the hosts, “Not many, because I’m very voluptuous.”
She went on to joke about the situation saying, “I think in a pop star’s life, usually the conversation every three months — especially when she’s dating someone — is, ‘Are you pregnant? Pregnant yet? You pregnant now? Now? Is that Taco Bell?’… It’s like, it’s only annoying if you let it be annoying.”

We’re not 100 percent sure that Super Bowl 55 will actually happen, but British gamblers are already laying down bets — on the halftime show!
Legal bookmaker CalvinAyre.com has installed Taylor Swift as a big favorite to headline the big stage. Her odds of +150 mean that you’d get a $50 profit if you bet $100. Other top contenders include Adele, at +300 and Rihanna at +600 — even though RiRi has already turned the gig down once due to the NFL’s blacklisting of activist quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
With any luck, Super Bowl 55 will take place in Tampa, Florida on February 7, 2021.

It was the perfect gift. These people have been working tirelessly for months. And, Michael was able to give them something unexpected that showed appreciation for all that they’re doing — and continue to do. (WABC-TV)

They realize that, whether Johnny wins his cases or not, he is likely to be viewed as box-office poison in these sensitive times. But Jerry was hoping there might be a way to get him on board for a small scene.”

Brace yourself: We may need to settle on Instagram concerts and shows at drive-ins for the next 18 months.
Live music executive Marc Geiger said last week in a podcast, (quote) “It’s going to be 2022. It will take that long before the ‘germaphobic economy’ is slowly killed off and replaced by the ‘claustrophobia economy.’ That’s when people want to get out: dinner, festivals and shows.”
The co-founder of Lollapalooza warned “super-spreader events — sports, concerts, festivals — aren’t going to do too well when the virus is this present.”
Live concerts face several obstacles before musicians can tour again. It’s just not about limiting capacity. Nor filtering recycled air and disinfecting air with UV light. But also insurance and liability could be a serious roadblock. (Consequence of Sound)

The Star claims Britney Spears is struggling while in quarantine. A source tells the magazine, “It’s no secret Britney’s a bit wacky and out there, but she’s finding quarantine difficult to adapt to. Part of it is due to the limited contact she has with her sons — she’s only seen them a couple of times over the past few months — and because she’s lonely and doesn’t have many friends. She spends hours making selfie videos because she’s so bored.”
In related claims, fans of Britney’s Instagram account claim that she is sending signs in her videos that she is in need of help. TMZ reports that obsessed followers see hints in things like a photo with Brit crossing her arms in an “X” and in some of her comments before her dance videos. But the site talked to a lot of people who say that the cocktail of medications that Britney takes to stabilize her mental health has become less efficient over time and that recently she’s been “struggling.”

Months ago, Laura Fisher of La Quinta, California, learned that her kidneys were failing — so she joined the wait list for a donor. Her daughter, Sarah, stepped forward and was a match.
But even at that point, COVID-19 put surgeries like this on hold.
Recently, they were able to schedule the transplant — and it will happen next week.
Of course, it will be different than normal, because no visitors will be allowed. Laura’s other daughter found a workaround, knitting them plush “cuddle hedgehogs,” so they can take a piece of home with them inside the hospital.
Both mother and daughter are happy that doctors and nurses will be able to take care of this life-saving surgery, even during these complicated times.
And, they feel lucky that they have each other for love and support along the way. (KESQ-TV)

Through all these years I’ve known Johnny to be a kind, attentive, generous and non-violent person and father.”
Winona’s witness statement read, in part: “I cannot wrap my head around (Ms Heard’s) accusations. He was never, never violent towards me. He was never, never abusive at all towards me.”
Depp is suing The Sun for calling him a “wife beater” and being violent toward ex-wife Amber Heard.

Although her TikTok video didn’t work out as planned, she still got to experience viral fame as her rescue was captured on video and shared on YouTube. (NY Post)

There isn’t a lot of details, but according to Deadline the studio and Jen are collaborating on a new film that involves dancing.
Considering it’s been 30 years since the original, and sadly, key cast members Patrick SwayzeJerry Orbach and Jack Weston have died — so a reunion kind of seems impossible. Also, there’s no mention of Eleanor Bergstein coming onboard — she created the now-beloved Baby and Johnny characters. We reached out to her and she replied, “I have no details on this at the present time.  If I know more, I’ll let you know.”

Nick Cannon was not so contrite with ViacomCBS, who fired him from the VH1 show Wild ‘n Out. He claimed that they owe him and apology. Also, he demanded ownership of his “billion-dollar” Wild ‘n Out brand.
He will remain as host and executive producer of The Masked Singer. FOX-TV taped the third season before the pandemic hit. Firing Nick Cannon would’ve required scrubbing an entire season and disqualifying the winner. (Variety)

ABC named Tyra Banks as the new host of Dancing with the Stars.
She replaces Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews, who were fired only one day ago. ABC plans a “creative refresh” of Dancing with the Stars for season 29 while “honoring the show America loves.”
Tyra Banks once hosted America’s Got Talent for two summers. She created and judged America’s Next Top Model. She said Tuesday, (quote) “I’ve been a fan of DWTS since its beginning. I’m excited to continue the legacy and put on my executive producer and hosting hats.”

Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein said in court on Tuesday, (quote) “I will not give preliminary approval to the settlement.”
Six accusers complained about the $19 million agreement, which they called “one of the most one-sided and unfair class settlements in history.” They claimed the lion’s share would go to attorneys leaving them “only $10,000 to $20,000” each.
Judge Hellerstein told the lawyers to seek a better agreement.
ViacomCBS severed ties with Nick Cannon, who expressed anti-Semitic conspiracies on his podcast.
Nick currently was hosting a rebirth of his MTV show Wild’n Out, which now airs on VH1. No word on whether the show will survive without him in it.
The company on Tuesday released a statement,  (quote) “ViacomCBS condemns bigotry of any kind and we categorically denounce all forms of anti-Semitism. We have spoken with Nick Cannon about an episode of his podcast Cannon’s Class on YouTube, which promoted hateful speech and spread anti-Semitic conspiracy theories.”
Two weeks ago, Nick Cannon invited Professor Griff to his podcast. He was once a member of Public Enemy. He departed 30 years ago in the wake of making anti-Semitic remarks.
Naya Rivera’s four-year-old son need not worry about college tuition. The three creators of the TV show Glee promised to establish a scholarship fund for Josey.

This is the summer of vacationing in an RV. Throughout the United States, sales and rentals of recreational vehicles have spiked. The RV is an ideal travel vehicle during a pandemic. Large enough to sleep the family but still mobile to get you to where you want to go.
Just one problem: First-time Winnebago drivers don’t know how to maneuver the large rigs. Julie Homrich said they had to landscape their entire yard after her husband “ran over the bushes and backed into our trees.”
Fast food drive-thrus are another hazard for RVs that typically stand taller than 12 feet. Too often an RV destroys overhead awnings. One owner said he was smart enough to walk into a Starbucks to make their order. Getting out of the parking lot was a different issue, (quote) “I tried to go wide. Then I heard a sudden crash. The pole next to the building pummeled my RV. It was a $200 coffee.”
A new survey by the research firm Censuswide reveals that 33% of parents spy on their kids’ Internet activity. Other findings:
– 33% of teens and tweens have created a secret social media account.
